Hey Lineup,
It makes me confused too!!! I also thought that DNA/PCR testing would be the most accurate - at least this is what MM claims. Why doctors here say MM is "unreliable", I can't figure out.
Some labs (amongst them MM, and Doctor's Data) do provide sensitivity testing against the bugs they find.
I am treating cryptosporidium with herbs for now; got Eclectic Intestinal Health (artemisia, clove, Black-Walnut ). It is however not strong enough even though some symptoms have vanished.
So I have investigated other herbs efficient for giardias/amoebas and will give them a try against crypto. I have had giardias and amoebas more than once due to the fact that I lived in Asia, mostly in very wild places, for many many years.
Normally, the drug used to eradicate giardias/amoebas is tinidazole. One day for giardiasis, three for amoebas. For cryptosporidium, it is this Nitaxonazide, and I won' touch it because of my liver. Tinidazole is not available in the West however due to its toxicity. But as far as these "azole" compounds are concerned, they're all super toxic, hepatotoxic, carcinogenic, etc. They are basically pesticides. So in this case, self treatment would be dangerous and stupid.
But with chemicals, the treatment is short and these protozoa are soon history.
I did two tests because that first doctor didn't trust Metametrix. Then the second test came back no parasites, but candida and yeast (unspecified which one). Actually, results contradict completely - one shows parasites no yeast, the other shows yeast, no parasite. Figure it out. I can't.
I am completely convinced that once the protozoa are out of my system, my gut ecology will be greatly improved.
