There is a parasite that eats the tongue out of a fish and replaces the fishes tongue with itself. Read parasite Rex by Carl Zimmer. The more you know about Parasites, the better chance you have of defeating them.
I understand what you are saying. It is your intuition speaking to you. This is a call for diligence. You can defeat them. The big gun is bloodroot. I would have died without it. I don't recommend it unless nothing else works, however, because it is not a gentle healer.
When you are killing off egg-laying parasites, it is important to repeat the treatment over and over until you get them all. This can take some time. And then there is the problem of avoiding recontamination. How to do that when you don't know where you got them to begin with?
parasites that lay eggs are tricky. Females can lay 200K eggs per day. They bury them in pockets in the colon and cap the nests over so medicine can't get to them. You have to wait until the eggs hatch to kill the hatchlings, but don't want too long after they hatch out, or they will have time to mate and start laying more eggs. Timing is critical.
As long as the female that layed the eggs is still alive, the eggs won't hatch out. She puts off a hormones that signals the eggs to remain dormant. This is so she doesn't have to compete with her babies for food. But as soon as she dies, they start hatching. Say you kill one mother, and millions of eggs start hatching. You don't follow up and kill the hatchlings before they start mating and laying eggs.... well you are going to die rather quickly because your infestation will grow exponentially...
Fortunately, hatchlings are a lot easier to kill than adults.
