>>>As you have shown, liver function is vital, but does improving liver function in itself resolve some of these issues? I'm thinking aloud here... and guessing not, it just is essential to good health. We still have to do the work of ridding ourselves of parasites, candida, etc.
Another long "essay":
I can tell you what I've learned from my own experience...
First of all, yes- I know I am very fortunate to have an Alternative Dr that has alot of knowledge in different areas. I've had people ask me if he could recommend Alt Dr's in different areas of the US that would have similar backgrounds. He just laughs- his wife is his receptionist and she chuckles and says "About the only way people would find another Dr like him, is if we cloned him". He's a Dr that has never stopped learning, and draws from different sources of his knowledge.
On his card, he's got degrees as:
Chiropractic Physician
Licensed Acupuncturist
Certified Clinical Nutritionist
Master of Science in Oriental Medicine
Diplomate of the American Clinical Board of Nutrition
I don't know where the homeopathic comes in, but homepathics are a major part of his practice.
I didn't find him by chance, I know that. After spending $30,000 on MD's, 3 ultra sounds, cat scan, hida scan, endoscopy, oodles and oodles of blood tests, gallbladder surgery, liver biopsy...my liver enzymes were STILL elevated. What originally was the start of finding I had liver damage going on, was a bizarre rash that showed up on my face. It looked like the "butterfly rash of lupus", and blood tests were ordered by the Internist for lupus. Lupus was ruled out, but when the test results came back...I'm sure this guy thought I was a closet alcholic, because my liver enzymes were showing liver damage. I don't know how many weeks I spent going back in for blood tests, week after week- liver enzymes elevated. Triglycerides, cholestrol- all not good either. C-reactive protein (inflammation) high, Fibrinogen (heart) high.
A GI Dr, not seeing anything in the ultra sounds/cat scan- told me it was "just a fatty liver, go home and lose 20#".
I had been extremely tired, and hadn't had motivation to do much, but I hadn't paid attention that my right side (liver) had a dull ache. Nothing showed up in the ultra sounds, nothing showed up in the cat scan--but the hida scan showed my gallbladder only functioning at 5% capacity- and the endoscopy showed celiac. I immediately went off of gluten.
The gallbladder surgery was done immediately the next morning after having the hida scan--and there were no Gallstones in the gallbladder. It just wasn't working.
So, now believing everything was going to be "cured" because the gallbladder had been "the culprit", and celiac, I assumed I was going to get back to feeling better--I had been active all my life, had taught exercise classes, used to run 4-5 miles regularly, competed in horse events etc.
Not. I didn't feel any better, I was still exhausted, my liver still hurt...and after not going to a Dr for a year after the surgery, I discover the darned liver enzymes are STILL elevated, as were everything else. Gallbladder surgery hadn't solved the problem...in fact, I was getting worse. I now was to the point that my liver hurt so badly, I couldn't ride in my husband's pickup. He literally took one look at my face, and turned around and brought me back home.
One last blood test that a Nurse Practitioner thought to do for liver enzymes being elevated was Epstein Barr Virus. It came back as high for being chronic/reactive...who knows how long I had had it, but it's a virus that hits the liver. It's also of the herpes family, and can lay dormant and become reactive. So, when he mentioned that I was "an infectious person", I went to an Infectious disease Dr--and that's the very last MD I've gone to. It was total humilitation. I had found CZ and liver flushing, and had done a couple of Liver Flushes (got so sick the first two, not knowing about parasites), and got large stones out. When I made the mistake of mentioning that to the Infectious disease Dr, and the student Dr--they about laughed me out of the office. "I don't know what you think you got, but it couldn't have been stones and it couldn't have been from the liver!"--and told me they could put me on antidepressants. I asked him how THAT was going to help my hurting liver! And made the 5 hour drive home in pain.
As soon as I got home, I did another Liver Flush because my liver hurt so badly- my husband and I literally prayed to know what direction to go because we obviously weren't getting help with MD's, and I was obviously getting worse. Although a biopsy had been done, liver cancer was what was in my mind. I did a search for an Alt. physician, called the number, and was able to talk directly to him right away..he answered the phone. He knew exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned "stones from the liver".
The city he is in is still almost 4 hours away, and we made an appt for the next week--but this time..I got an ice chest, and got my baggie of big liver stones out of the freezer to take as proof--it was Aug (last year) 110 degrees..and when I pulled them out of the ice chest..they were all melted together- and stunk! He laughed--he told me he knew what they were.
First thing he got me started on right away was the colon. He told me things needed to be done "in order"...and to expect to be a good year. That's probably the best thing he could have told me..because little did I know what we were going to find shortly after. Thank goodness he had gotten me started on the colon, and colon cleansing, because about a month later... I had just started posting on CZ, and Dr Sutter told me that he was sure the liver problems were parasites, most likely flukes. The Dr had mentioned parasites were one of the things he was going to be checking me for, but I jumped the gun. I got right up from the computer and started on the Cabot dewormer I'd bought for my daughter--and the parasite killing journey began.
The next trip to the Dr (going once a month) when I told him about the daily toiletful of parasites I was killing, he told me that had to be the focus (with the bowels still too). Not a small load of parasites...he's now told me I've been the most highly infected person he's had in his 15 years of practice with treating patients for parasites. He told me not long ago, what my husband and I already knew..had I stayed with MD's, and not gotten to the core causes, my life wouldn't have been much past 50- and my liver had not been far from cancer. Month after month- muscle testing with vials for the parasites, and muscle testing with different herbal dewormers and homeopathics, I continued to kill them. Liver Flushing is part of his protocol, and that has gone along with it--(and his flush--is exactly the same coke flush as Dr Sutter- but with the Epsom Salts of Clark's included, which is what I do).
So...this is a long way around to getting back to your question...but if the liver has gotten in the shape that mine had gotten into, the liver couldn't have been able to function when it was so plugged up and congested from not working right to begin with. It's unfortunate that people, including myself, believe that if they will just do enough Liver Flushes (and yes, kill the parasites) that the liver will correct itself, and all the other organs (including the immune system) will fall into place.
That's a large part of it, but it's only part of it. A healthier liver can take care of the pathogens, parasites, viruses, fungus, toxins...but a sick liver can't...and once the liver is sick, and all of this stuff has invaded deeper parts of the body....getting the liver healthy is crucial, but to answer your question--yes, you still need to clean up the mess along with it.
>>>>The major percentage of blood being filtered by the liver is from the portal vein, which carries blood from the intestines. The liver can remove a broad spectrum of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites from the blood, which is desirable, as we certainly do not want these building up in the blood and invading deeper parts of the body.
I have a lot to learn, but I think it's like the Dr told me in the beginning--this is not a "quick fix" and can be tiring and frustrating at times, but diligence and self-discipline is key. And, understanding that natural health does work in "phases". Had I only stayed on the Livatone Plus/Dr Cabot's "liver friendly diet" without killing parasites/ Liver Flushing all the gunk out of the liver that had backed up--would it have fixed the liver problem? I'm sure it wouldn't have, but I do think if I had had a better understanding of how the liver was supposed to work and had incorporated the Cabot stuff with getting it cleaned up, it most likely would have made a difference. I'm a slow learner. There's been alot more he's found along the way that have had to be addressed too though- glandular imbalances, finding not just the EBV, but also the CMV virus- also of the same herpes family, also one that hits the liver--and the still active Rocky Mtn Spotted fever (tick bite 40 years ago) and specific homeopathic treatments for each.
THe Dr uses Premiere Research Labs products in his office, and he did have me taking liver products for several more months, but I didn't notice a difference--he took me off of them and told me the focus had to be on killing the parasite load and just the last couple of months, we've been able to start getting to the specifics--it may be another year. Not to discourage anyone, but if you are working with someone in natural medicine....realize that you didn't get in the shape you are in overnight, and reversing it isn't going to be a quick thing either. And 9/10th's of us don't have just one cause for the health problems- there are many co-factors involved in most of us. Be open to learning things for yourself too...I have jumped ahead of my Dr in researching the liver detox pathways etc...but yet, now when he talks about them, I actually understand what he means too. I can understand better also, why he is still doing specific things in the order he is....we know heavy metals are involved....but first things first--trying to detox heavy metals with a liver that isn't working right, or bowels or kidneys or lymph system that aren't cleared out..has caused even more problems for people.
I've printed this out and read and re-read, and re-read:
