I have a couple of thoughts right off the top of my head in reading your story--
Herbs ARE medicinal, and more powerful than people may think. I don't know if you went by the normal dose they said to take, but it is wise to start taking the herbs at smaller dosages and gradually build them up. And yes, herbs do effectively kill parasites and can be considered "systemic", in that they don't just go to the digestive system, they will go through the blood as well, so yes you may feel them as they are being hit in different areas. If you have a large load of them, don't get the idea that you need to kill a bunch of them all at once, there is die off (herx detox) reactions.
It's very important to make sure before you start any kind of detoxing (including parasite killing) that your systems for elimination are working well--be colon cleansing and working on the bowels to make sure they are moving toxic stuff out as it dies. I found that I had to liver flush, and do coffee enemas to clear the toxins and dead parasites out of my liver too.
You'll hear different protocols here on CZ- I'll just tell you what the Alt Health physician that has been working with me for killing my load of parasites has told me through this "journey"- he said people make the mistake of getting into killing parasites by thinking they can do a 30 day kit and be done. He just told me this again recently. That once you start killing the parasites, kill them in all their phases. There are different herbs that work to kill different parasites, and formulas you can rotate. There are several women on the Microbe Detectives forum that have found themselves with worse parasite problems from going to the pharma drugs and trying to go through MD's..and there are plenty of people here that can tell you of their frustration in trying to find out anything through lab's/MD's.
Just a couple of my thoughts, I hope others will jump in here. Go gradual on the herbs though, and build up in dosages to begin with--but then too, you don't want to take too weak of dosages of herbs over long periods of time either..and you want herbal products that are fresh and good quality. Once you know you aren't going to have allergic reactions etc from the herbs, don't be afraid to then increase dosages, or add something more to what you are doing. There are electronics, like the zapper, frequency generators, Rife machines etc that you can get into too.
I have been fortunate to have an ND type Dr working with me that has had 15 years of experience working with patients with parasites. You might try finding one in your area that has an understanding of parasites.
You can also try finding someone near you that does biofeedback/treatment for parasites from these sites:

http://www.alternativesforhealing.com/cgi_bin/practitioner-epfxqxciscio.php
It's not easy finding someone that has an understanding and biofeedback practitioners will differ and one may be better than another one--but from my own experience, I'm thankful to not have been going through all of this on my own without a good practitioner, because there are alot of co-factors that have shown up along the way too that I would never have known how to deal with- glands out of whack, viruses etc.
Good Luck! BTW--I've never been out of the country and I found out what a load I had of them--the focus becomes killing the parasites, but it's also about doing what you can for your entire health (immune system) as well. And, it's not a quick process--be patient.
