Hi Victor 1119,

I just got back from a family wedding/vacation this afternoon and saw your email.  I want you to know that my heart goes out to you.  I can appreciate what you're going through because I saw my son suffer through that at your age as well.

Every time I've sat down to write to you, I start writing and then I erase it and write something else, and I've repeated that ritual a number of times.  So, what I'm going to do is tell you why it's difficult for me to give you answers, and probably other people in this forum who feel for you and wish they could help you as well.

If you have gone to your dentist, and he/she has told you that it doesn't have anything to do with an infection in your mouth, throat, or sinuses, then it's coming from your lungs.  Not that there is a problem with your lungs, but possibly from toxins in your blood due to a metabolic condition that your body tries to excrete through your breath, saliva, sweat on your skin, and pretty much any other bodily secretion.  You may also have altered bacteria in your intestines that can also cause toxins to permeate into your blood, which your body tries to secrete through whichever way it can to cleanse itself out.

The biggest difficulty I have about writing any of this to you is that you are a minor, and TMAU, any other metabolic condition that may exist but not yet conclusively proven scientifically, or altered bacteria condition that you might have would require medical attention, and your parents are the only ones that can determine what medical attention to provide you with.  You might want to show them the information I note below, so that they can try to help you with this.

The only reason I know of any of these things is because my son, who is now 22 years old, went through what you’re going through right now, and none of the doctors I took him to had answers for him, because these conditions are rare or not yet researched thoroughly, so in a desperate attempt to find solutions for my son, I began to research online from reputable sources.

The only metabolic condition that has been conclusively diagnosed and traced back to a rare genetic condition is Trimethylaminuria (TMAU).  See my previous posts which make reference to online articles written by the National Institute of Health regarding TMAU.

If you like, you can click on my username, mpdela, and it will give you a 2 page list of all the emails I’ve written regarding supplements and diets that have helped my son.  There is another user who is a scientist, Arun Nagrath, who also suffers from body odor himself, and he’s written many interesting posts.  His user name is scientist42.  I recommend that you read all his emails, since he is a reliable source.

I hope all this information helps you significantly so that you can at least reduce your odor, if not completely eliminate it.  Most people in these body odor forums only manage to reduce their odor with diet, supplements, and gut treatments.  Some manage to sometimes have long spurts of time without odor, but it’s a long and slow process because the toxins are in your blood throughout your body, and it takes a long time to clean them out.  Actually, in the cleansing process, you might begin to smell the odor more yourself than ever before.

In my son’s case, his odor used to be a 10+ most of the time (very similar to yours as you describe it), and now it’s mostly between 0 and 2.  However, as time passes (in a little over 6 months), his odor diminishes more and more.  He saw significant improvement after a couple of months, but it just keeps improving as he's learned to control it with diet and supplements, and intestinal cleansings.

Please keep in touch with whatever questions you may have, or just simply if you need emotional support.  Hang in there.

Maria (mpdela)
