I just read this and sadly, I'm forced to agree with you. I have had kids finally reveal some horrendous abuses, so being a mandated reporter, I call. In one case that comes to mind, the girl was beaten on a regular basis, denies any sexual abuse. On her legs and back were welts from extension cords and a belt. Her little brother usually had the accidental falling off the swing marks. Black eye, swollen lips, grab marks on the arms, etc.
Children svcs came out, yep, they saw signs of abuse, but not bad enough to arrest or "inconvienient" the parents. The logic: the injuries were not life threatening. The case worker suggested counseling for the parents, but that was it.
There are others, but they are similar. Yet, I have had a few success stories with them too, so I don't know. Not sure if it is lack of ability, caring, common sense on the workers part, or is it the problem with the supervisory staff, or is the whole system completely dysfunctional. Yet...one thing I do know, I'm glad I don't have their job. With only a few places to put the kids who are removed, how do you decide who stays in hell and who get placed in the crap shoot of foster placement? So, while I have a strong dislike for how they do things, I have no clue how to make it any better.
And then there is the situations where false complaints are filed. I agree, those people need a special place, not just in this life, but in the hereafter too.
