Allow me to add another layer to your story. I was in a situation almost exactly as you describe. There had been no history of physical abuse with this individual, although he certainly did not know how to treat a lady. And when I had finally had enough of his garbage and tried to leave his apartment, he blocked me from the door and came very close to breaking my finger. Yep, I too, have the x-rays and medical bills to prove it!

And I don't want anyone's pity! I had a lesson to learn, albeit a very painful one.

The person who did need pity in this situation...

His precious young daughter who was watching the whole thing!!!

That's what made me cry at night.
