Here is a quote from Mercola on chelating mercury

Mercury Detoxification Protocol

"It is important to have a generally healthy mineral base. The body works better with toxic metals than no metals at all. Enzymes have certain binding sites that require a metal for them to perform their function as a catalyst. When you are deficient in magnesium, sodium, zinc and other minerals, the body does not let go of the toxic metals very easily."

Reading on minerals, elements, metals we see in almost all cases where the body can and does make due the best it can with what it has on hand. For instance, aluminum will cause the body to lose boron, in an effort to rid the aluminum from the body, the body's silicon is spent, in addition, absorption and utilization of magnesium and calcium is compromised... it goes on and on with other metals such as lead.

In many cases the safest and best chelating agents are the very minerals that the metals interfere with.

I am of the opinion though, given our current environment, that we want our bodies to at minimum tolerate the toxic bombardment/load from air water and soil as best it can. Chelation through adequate dietary mineral intake to the point of glowing health, but not total avoidance...

Why? Let us say people are successful at chelating and maintaining a pristine body terrain in today's polluted world. Will this person's children be adapted to deal with the ever increasing toxic assault on their bodies. Adaptation to, or at minimum, toleration of is essential for survival.

I am toying with this thought as I move forward... trying to determine what is best. It is a confusing mess to say the least.

The most interesting discussion I am finding is the very real need for mineral supplementation, before, during and after heavy chelation therapies...

It all fits; at least in my mind.
