HVC is fortunately often asymtpomatic. You have a relatively high chance of not getting sick if you contract the virus. Over time however, your chances increase and scarring may accumulate in the liver causing cirrhosis and liver disfunction. To date, one general method of treatment is to have a test measuring your viral load. If your viral load is high then you should probably have a liver biopsy, a relatively simple proceedure. If cirrhosis is in evidence, interferon and other drugs can be used for a period of around 12 months to try and lower viral load. This course of treatment statistically lowers the odds of future difficulty due to cirrhosis. Interferons historically can make you feel ill, but people I've talked to say this treatment has improved, although they didn't say in what way.
