"Muslim" is a religious identity, and "American" is a national identity. Presently we don't have a name for the mainstream american culture, so we refer to it as "American" but that is not a correct term because America is only the nation from which Americans are born, and this national heritage does not necessarily reflect their beliefs, values, or identities.

There are dumbasses on both sides, American AND Muslim. There are wise women and men on both sides, American AND Muslim.
