Landslide Lyndon

Johnson was first elected to office when the last ballot box was delivered from Duval County Texas when it was known how many votes were needed for Johnson to win.  The ballot box had just enough votes to enable Johnson to win the race and thus the enduring knickname of "Landslide Lyndon"..was delivered.  It later turned out that a great many of the voters were dead at the time.

I know of a guy who claimed to have been the one who did the ballot box stuffing.  He was introduced as they guy who rigged the election for Johnson and he admitted it.

Now, some might say that he was just some old guy bragging - but he was an old master political operative in his day known for his political hijinks and colorful deeds who was near the end of his life with really nothing to gain by such an admission.

Or maybe he just wanted one more moment of notoriety . . .
