For anyone who doesn't live in the UK, you can sometimes find good deals at Expedia.com, Travelocity, or Priceline, who sometimes offer deeply discounted NONREFUNDABLE rates, or carry a cancellation fee.  Anyone interested can also get a package air-land rate.  You can ask for a hotel near the Tower of London, and get around on the tube (subway, underground train) system.  It's a very simple and easy system to understand.
