Re: About salt . . .
Thanks Charlie,
That's awfully serendipitous, the topic of salt has been on my mind a bit lately, and our local Weston Price chapter is currently e-mailing about it.
Well, I use pink himalayan crystal salt, it tastes great, but the truth is I wonder how great it really is, not being from the sea and having all the sea minerals. Otherwise, it is supposed to be very healthy, as far as salt goes, kind of sweet tasting.
But do we even need salt? Does anyone even know. Edgar Cayce would always say that there are four components the body needs to build upon, and these are Water, Salt, Iodine, and sodium bicarbonate. I'm sure it's not as simple as just taking these four things and achieving health, but it's interesting nonetheless.
On the other end of the spectrum, we have a fellow like Aajonus Vonderplanitz, a nutritionist in california, who specifically requests that salt consumption be avoided. Apparently, any amount of salt dries cells from the inside out, and it takes about 24 hours to rid the body of its effects, before cells can start reproducing healthily again. I am butchering this philosophy, but to check it out for yourself see "We Want to Live," by said author.
He does advocate drinking vegetable juices, or consuming other products that contain sodium, but this would of course be in an organic form and may therefore be more readily used by the body.
So the question of salt remains, hopefully some seasoned CZ'ers will share their experience.
