Re: How did each one of us get into the healing arts?
My grandmother would take me out into the pasture and woodlands. She is one of the ones you hear about when you hear about "old wives tales". She knew so much of that stuff. That was in the early fifties for me. Then, when I moved away from home to work for a living (computers), I knew I was going to have to find out what the heck makes me constipated, sinus inflammation, sluggish, etc. Of course, that stuff affected me when I was a little boy; but I was in a poor family. The only doctor visit I had back then was when I was very constipated. The doctor laughed and said "Drink more water". Mom was mad that she had to spend so much money and get off from work just for that. I never complained about anything to my family since then.
I figured it was dairy; because we had cows and chickens. Later in life I realized it had to be much more than that. I've been on a health quest ever since then. The allopaths have been useless. I don't bother with them. I haven't been to a doctor for 12+ years. Then I retired and moved to Texas, had to have a physical for insurance, and still would rather stay away. This is my first year of no income anyway; so I feel I should be frugal. Psychological.
It's been a long quest. Much education along the way. I prefer the philosophy of altmed. Prevention is so important.
