vibr8's trusty computer is in the hospital!
Date: 5/14/2006 7:27:30 PM ( 19 y ) ... viewed 3174 times In less than a minute, last Wednesday, something happened that hugely affected my carefully balanced little world at my alternative health office. Really it is affecting my whole life. Only, of course, because I am making a choice to allow this event to continue to affect me.
A computer virus. That's what happened. I thought I had all the latest updated protection necessary to not let something like that virus into my computer. But it did get in. Many of you have probably experienced computer viruses. I had too, but not one like this.
I tried to fix it myself with the various programs I already had on board to use. They would say they got rid of everything, but then when I restarted the computer, and opened any program, the virus would come back, more intense than it was previously.
A friend at work suggested a type of antivirus software different than what I already had on my computer, so I tried that the next day, and just after I purchased that software online, a client came into my office who suggested something called Panda. Panda is supposed to work even on the newer stranglehold kinds of viruses like the one I apparently got.
Panda wouldn't even download; the virus wouldn't let it. So the next morning I took my computer to a repair shop.
I usually feel so relaxed at my alternative health office. I play Yoga music on my computer speakers, and do research on the computer, and enjoy reading and writing stuff on CureZone, mostly.
I did not realize how attached I had become to the computer at my office. I found myself feeling rather bereft without it.
Perhaps it's more the connection with people that the computer affords me, in cyberspace. I love the people here at CureZone and felt disconnected without my daily CureZone visits.
All my files for my business and all sorts of research results regarding alternative health are on that computer too, so of course I have some concerns about losing my data, since I did not think to back it up. Hello everyone.....back up your data!!! Or am I the only one in the universe who did not think to back up their data??
So, computer is still at the "computer hospital." Computer was almost all better yesterday late afternoon, but the technician said when he went to do something with MS Windows, the whole thing crashed and a "blue screen" came up. He said that a blue screen is "not a good sign." However he said he was pretty sure my data was still there, on the hard drive, and when he returns to work next Tuesday he will resume work on reloading an entire new system after saving what's salvageable of the old one.
I have experienced such angst from all this! Today being Mother's Day, I tried to put it out of my mind enough to enjoy brunch with my mother, daughter, son, son's girlfriend, and my brother. A nice brunch it was.
Then I thought maybe a session on my son's computer might be soothing and grounding for me, so here I am.
I'm thinking of maybe at this juncture getting a Mac, a newer refurbished Mac laptop, to replace the one that's crashed. If the technician can load any of my data onto a Mac from the PC. I think with CD Roms that is possible these days....
Then I could use the Quark software that's been gathering dust at my house for a year or more, because an old Mac I have doesn't have enough memory or the right Operating System to run Quark.
Pardon me if I am wording any of this incorrectly, for I am not a techie.
I just can't believe how off-center this virus that attacked my computer has gotten me.
Why do people create viruses and launch them on others? It really doesn't make any sense to me.
When I meditate, it all falls into place, and I realize that in the grand scheme of things a computer and some data are not the be-all and end-all of my world.
