Thanksgiving in the Village
sometimes I feel like an ant in an ant farm

I will not go into the family of origin stuff or the observation of friends' behaviors. You've got your own holidays to remember.
So tonight I wrote a poem about Thanksgiving. My Thanksgiving? Anyone's...

Thanksgiving in the Village by the poet known here as vibr8
Stopping calliope
Dazzled at holiday’s edge
Amerikans call Thanksgiving
spend the day eating
and eating
and eating
Unless poor and hungry
Purposely fasting
Or simply not hungry
Some spend the day alone
And happy
Some spend the day surrounded by people
And unhappy
Some think about Pilgims and Indigenous People
Some don’t
Some care that so many turkeys die
Most don’t
Many care that so many Indigenous People died, and are still dying somewhere
Some don’t understand what it all means.
Darn it, I protest
If we throw away what’s not important
And what we can’t do anything about
And leave the rest
What’s left?
People together enjoying one another’s company
Seeing friends or family we don’t usually see
Taking an extra day or two off from work
Getting out of town
Getting out of the house
Or enjoying time staying at home
Entertaining loved ones
That’s the holiday ideal, really
Even if you can only find peace and quiet
Locking yourself in the bathroom
For a breather
Take it all in, be present
Hold the day with care and reverence
We only spin through this lifetime once
Why not find something to give thanks for?

So that's it for now. Hope you had good holidays. I'm enjoying so much of the writing here on Curezone. Special thanks to Liora Leah and Lapis for covering such real and important issues so beautifully and accurately!
Blessings,
