This is a reply to # 949,991I'm certainly no fan of the devil, but I could never help but laugh at the title of the Rolling Stone's song "Sympathy For The Devil", everybody is always blaming everything on him instead of accepting personal responsibility. Now we have "the blame wars".
The books probably also have lead in the ink (in the U.S., color newsprint used to have high lead content until the late 80's or early 90's). I don't think the bosses at Mattel fire the Chinese (or the devil), they fire the employees responsible for this mess.
It seems that "reassure" has been redefined to mean "BLAME somebody else".
"Beijing has tried to defend its safety record and reassure consumers by highlighting similar problems in other countries".
We are going to have much more vigilant about our health now (not just food).

usually have lead STILL. Especially the cheapos at Walmart and
such.
Pewter has lead ,too.
I didn't know about the lead in ink...ahh,that's why my hands feel so
heavy after reading old books! time to put a rubber thumbpiece on
instead of licking to turn the page! There was a Sean Connery movie
where the poison was on the page of the book...

This is a reply to # 950,595i guess a good rule of thumb is to not trust a system that allows cigarettes. as long as cigarettes are for sale, we should cast suspicion on everything we consume.

i don't buy that one. i don't think choice is an issue. when you do not know what is going into foods and they are promoted as healthy, that is not choice to me. when they disclose everything and tell the real truth, then it may be choice. but, i kind of doubt it, because if the gov't gave full disclosure and still allowed the food, it would still tell us it was safe to eat, and much of it is not. - Maybe it all boils down to this: Aharleygyrl
