Just wanted to share something interesting I learned about hives...
I posted awhile back about my own experience with a sudden breakout in horrible hives about 1 month after a 1 dose diflucan. I thought it was dieoff. I tried doing all the candida diet, and taking supplements & special teas to cleanse my liver etc. Staying away from sugar helped. That is why I thought it was candida. However, the hives lasted for 4 months straight, then started to clear from March to June, then flared up only on my legs, and trunk and breast areas and sometimes arm, where ever my clothes seams touched me or from heat etc...but only in the evenings....I read about everything I could find on potential causes for hives. I had seen a dermatologist who did biopsy and tests to make sure it wasn't bacterial, or virus, or other, they found nothing, just that I was reacting, but not why, ...not sure how all encompassing the tests used are, but atleast they looked and ruled out what they could. Candida blood test came back negative, but still I suspected an inbalance somewhere from the hives symptoms and other candida things I seemed to notice... Interestingly, benedryl and other allergy drugs didn't help much for the hives, but IB profin did. I tried avoiding allergy foods, and anything that might correlate to my evening hive erruptions....definitely sugar and chocolate & coffee or caffeine made it worse....but even if avoided, I still got the hives intensified in the evenings...finally after going thru 4 doctors & 2 Naturepaths I found a good NP Nurse Practitioner who gave me an ASI test, (Adrenal Stress Index Test). Guess what? Stress had done this to me...and well the hives were related to my very low cortisol, due to my severe adrenal fatigue, per the test results. All this time Adrenal troubles...who knew? The answer to that? get rid of the stressors in your life and take adrenal supplementation and maybe isocort or cortef if required...but it's a 1-2 year deal if you are really fatigued...in the meantime..some help:
Hives are an indicator of inflammation. Cortisol is the body's natural anti inflammatory hormone, among many other things. It also affects insulin resistance and sugar metabolisim. Atlast the connection was made. I learned that I have to address my adrenals, and take a 1/2 to 1 tsp of
sea salt in full glass of water daily 1-2 times or as needed. Do not over do this or any water intake. Do not use ordinary table salt. Adding in some seasalt water will help with my body's salt, magesium, potassium and water balance which affects dehydration at the cellular level and can give you hives if overlooked for too long (if that is the cause of your hives). Anyway, if you have bad hives check your adrenals & cortisol levels thru an ASI test you can order directly from diagnostics lab link below or thru your trusted care provider & read the book referenced below.
Take some sea salt in a glass of water and if the reason is your adrenals, the sea salt & water will give you relief from the inflamatory hives with in 20-30 minutes. Sea salt is a natural anti inflammatory. Flaxseed Oil is also helpful. See websites below for further information. Also, of note, that adrenal fatigue can be an underlying cause of Candida imbalance, and it can undermine Thyroid effectiveness too, yet many doctors are not well aware of the adrenal insufficiency stages and how to treat until one has full on Addison's disease or Cushings, etc, but sometimes that can be prevented, so don't let that stop your quest for good health. The awareness is getting better everyday... Best to all ....do not give up the search, we can get well--Hope this helps!
