About 1 month ago I finally made contact with a local farmer who operates a raw-milk dairy (cows freely grazing on grass). He sells milk, eggs (also free-range and not feed-lot fed) and cheese. They make their own cheese using their own milk. I called them, got directions, drove there to check it out and ended up talking to this fellow for about 1/2 hour. He referred me to another local family running a wholesome farmers market. The following weekend I visited their farm.
This turned out to be an extra bonus. As well as having a chance to talk with Mr & Mrs running this farm, their bee man was there to tend the three hives he maintains for them. So I got to talk with him for a good while too. The main impetus of this couple's farm and the produce they grow is to serve their CSA (crop share association). They also operate a public but small farmers market open during the afternoon on Satuday as a means to offer any excess produce they have to the general public. They gave me info to get on the mailing list and informed that for right now, they are already at capacity of membership for the amount of produce volume they are currently growing. Being in Pennsylvania, their particualr CSA is divided into 3 growing seasons: spring ; summer ; fall. Membership is currently maxed out through the current fall season :( but I take this as a glimmer of good news. Just yesterday I found out this couple also hosts a "heritage dinner" about 8 times per summer where they host a public dinner featuring a wholesome country meal based on and around their produce as well as the local dairy previously mentioned.
