Big Pharma's callous disregard for the lives of poor people is demonstrated by the following two cases:
The Associated Press reports that Nigerian government lawyers withdrew a $7 billion civil lawsuit against Pfizer Inc. on Friday, saying they have discovered new material and plan to file what they called an even stronger case against the U.S. drug maker.

The government has accused Pfizer of taking advantage of a 1996 meningitis epidemic to test an experimental drug without authorization or full understanding of the families involved - allegedly contributing to the deaths of 11 children and seriously disabling others. Pfizer denies wrongdoing.

Two hundred children were involved in this unethical medical experiment. Reuters reports that the Nigerian government's amended suit, states "The plaintiff avers that on account of the defendants' fraudulent use of the unapproved drug Trovan and the deliberate and purposeful low-dosing of ceftriaxone, 11 children ... died. Others suffered varying degrees of injuries and/or disorders including deafness, muteness, paralysis, brain damage, loss of sight, slurred speech." For 11 years the parents of these children have been denied justice.
