Its possible a good oral surgeon can be better than a regular dentist. eg. Removal of toxic/allergic materials may be better then placement or replacement which is usually pushed by mainstream dentistry.
You will have to look out for ethical problems no matter what type of dentist they are. Eg. See the following article.

MoreThis is a reply to # 922,358It was interesting to read about the million dollar dentist.
My husband ended up at one till I read an article that this dentist was a guest speaker at a seminar how to work 3 days a week and make a million.
The other days he spent on his yacht.
I did not realize that there was even a newsletter about it.
Of course after one treatment he did not go back.
