We don't want your pineapples: EU

A shipment of South African-grown pineapples has been rejected by the European Union, the Democratic Alliance said on Sunday.
The party said the EU detected excessively high levels of cadmium - a carcinogenic - apparently derived from fertilisers imported from China.
It claimed similar cans were on shelves in local shops.
"It is completely unacceptable that we should have to rely on European Union testing to have the dangers lurking in our own food pointed out to us," the party said in a statement.
The DA said the department of agriculture claimed that a 1947 Act, the Feeds and Fertiliser Act, did not require testing for heavy metals....

That's because the concerted efforts to allow the use of heavy metals via insecticides, fluoridation, etc., BEGAN at this time (post-war).
Humans and their collective folly...Organophosphate cocktail for one, please!
I've ALWAYS heard that eating anything but organic pineapples was a recipe for trouble. So much spraying is done on these sweet fruits in foreign countries (Costa Rica, Hawai'i) that it's better to refrain than to imbibe.

Recently, my daughter returned from a trip to Hawaii. She said the pineapples were so delicious, but she was not allowed to bring any back on the plane. Wondering why? Perhaps they weren't poison enough for us, like the ones that are shipped here.

*You're correct...it's to reduce any problems that may incur from non-indigenous insects/bacterium.
It's so true that the produce there (papayas, mangos, pineapples) are scrumptious, however, Hawai'i keeps the good stuff for themselves, as do all that export their produce/goods to the US/Europe. We get the leftovers.

This is a reply to # 915,625And, yet, it seems that most good U.S. stuff is shipped elsewhere. We don't get the best, unless we produce it ourselves or buy from very small locals.
