No two ThetaHealers are the same. The modality works. The question is whether or not the right beliefs are being changed.
Although working by phone is quite possible for success, I would suggest to those who are interested to see if it is possible to find a practitioner that you can visit personally. Use your own intuition in choosing who to work with.
No one modality is perfect for everyone, although ThetaHealing, EFT, etc. do all work. Rather than say something does not work, please recognize that you might not have had the best modality for you, or perhaps had underlying beliefs that still needed to be cleared.
I use hypnotherapy, NLP, ThetaHealing and EFT and vary them according the the client and his/her needs. No session is ever exactly the same as another. There is help for whatever "ails" us. I will send my clients to other practitioners when I feel that they need something such as acupuncture. No two of us needs exactly the same thing at the same time.
There might be some "snake oil" treatments out there, but often I think that people have not met up with their best modality/practitioner and are quick to judge - a little like the parable of the blind men and the elephant.
I have a client who was trained in ThetaHealing elsewhere. When she saw me for a session, she was upset that what I was doing (from the Basic class techniques) was something she had never learned to do. That should not have been. Sometimes it is not the method, but the practitioner. Sometimes the practitioner has not received what s/he needs. Again, I feel that we should use our intuition in choosing any practitioner from any field.
