I was contacted yesterday by a concerned curezone reader and poster about the way the voting is done on the Blogs. This person advised me to go to that forum and then click on a blog and then click on the number of votes that blog had received. I was told if you can keep clicking over and over and over again, it will raise the number of votes that blog has received.
As most of you remember, I knew NOTHING about the blogs until the problem with blogs came up not too long ago. I entered the blogs then, but I am still dumb as a post when it comes to blogging.......But, last night, I played around on a few blogs and yes, it is very true that you can vote for the same blog over and over and over again. In fact, I noticed that from the time I went to bed last night and then got up this morning, one blog had received over 3,000 more votes!
So, the voting thing is apparently not fair to everyone because most of the people who post blogs are decent and honest people and would never dream of cheating to make their blog more popular.
So, my question is this.............If we are going to have voting on the blogs, why can't you base popularity of a blog on non-originator posts----and not the hits on a post?

MoreThis is a reply to # 89,930Well, you are like me. I learned this just yesterday and I was shocked.
What you do is go to the blogs and click on one.....Then look up at the # of times viewed and click there. Go back to that same blog and click again # of times viewed and the number changes every time you do that.
One thing I do realize is that by doing this, it does increase the number of hits for the whole website and that is important to show curezone as a popular website. But, I do believe that curezone would still be ranked in the top 3 health related websites if we did NOT do this. I mean, this is NOT honest and it's not fair to the other bloggers who work hard on their blogs, but are not recognized like they should be.

This is a reply to # 89,931So, blogs are rated by the number of page views I would have thought it would make more sense if They were ranked by the number of posts folks have made in them Or at least by Unique Page Views.
Yahoo has a definition for us:
Page views refers to the number of times visitors to your site have looked at your pages. Every time a visitor loads one of your pages, a page view is counted.
Unique page views is a subset of your total page views, so this number will tend to be lower than your total page views. This statistic represents the number of individual visitors who have reviewed your pages: Each visitor to your site is counted only once, no matter how many pages he opens. Site Statistics uses cookies to distinguish between total page views and unique page views. (Note: To receive unique page views statistics for a page, you must first place a counter on your page and enable the use of cookies during the counter setup. Learn how.)
Site Statistics allows you to review both the total page views and unique page views for each page in your site and can help you clarify who is visiting your site and how often

This is a reply to # 89,931Well, I have a blog, but did not know anything about the voting part of the blog. I know that we cannot click on our own personal blogs and have that click show up as a view or as you say, vote... I can't click my own blog and have that click count.
I don't understand how clicking on a page of someone's blog and making that click count for the whole blog detrimental to other people's blogs. All CZ blogs have that option if someone reads any page of any blog.
I didn't realize those numbers were considered votes. I thought they were just tallying the views. There are many very popular blogs in CZ, but it's not the owners who are tripling the numbers, it's the readers. And all blogs are listed for anyone who wants to read them.
This is my understanding anyway...

I found your blog, "Rising Above It" and clicked on the number of times viewed and then found your blog again. It's #45 if my memory serves me right and I clicked on that again. The number increased each time I clicked. Within a couple of minutes, you got 10 more votes from me and that is sad because I never even read what you wrote.
Now, don't think badly of me because I plan on going back and reading what you wrote because you deserve that. Anyone who works hard on a blog deserves that. I am only explaining how easy it is to increase the popularity of someone else's blog. Then they are listed in the "Top Blogs" and it isn't fair to you or anyone else.
As far as if the author of the blog can vote, I don't know because I have never written a blog. But, if that is true, there are MANY ways around that. Anyone with the least bit of computer knowledge can bypass that......Sad, but true.

In short, counting pageviews for comparing different blogs is almost impossible. It may give you a broad view, which blogs are read often, but that's about it. It may still be a good way for yourself to see the general trend of your user base.
One other way to quickly check if a blog has an interested and active user base is to look at its comments. Almost no comment all the time: Not many people find it interesting (or the blogger is just not writing stuff worth to comment). Some comments now and then: People read it, are interested and take the time to add their opinion.
As you can see, there's no tool nowadays to really compare the "importance" of one blog to another, all the ways to count that have their pros and cons and that's also the reason, why there is no ultimate "most important blogs" list. Old media people may have a problem to digest that, they're used to their WEMF figures and obviously need something to compare and to estimate the "threat" of the blogs to their domain....

Likewise... After pondering your perspective and reading the articles from the links you provided, I, too, am beginning to see the World of the Blog in a different light.
When I click on a blog, I read it, what's the point otherwise? I don't derive pleasure from just swooping through and not sampling the fare. I just assumed everyone else read the blogs they clicked on. Mine, for example, I assumed those clicks were from readers... now I wonder. Hmmm...
The whole idea behind my writing that blog and I assumed the reasons behind everyone writing a blog on CZ, is so that others can be authentically inspired and have pertinent information at their fingertips. This is all highly intriguing actually, this politics of blogs.

This is a reply to # 89,938I had noticed this quite awhile back - there had been some issue and I though Dusan had rigged it so that the page hits were not factored into popularity - because than it is to easy for someone to manipulate the system.
I guess he had not fixed that - I agree with you SB - popularity should not be based on the number of page hits.

You are talking about Blog page hits , also called Blog page views .
Voting is a different animal, and shows how many people like/dislike what they read.
"page hits" or "page views" does not say directly how many people like what they read, but "page hits" are a general measure of the popularity of a single blog.
There is no difference between "page hits" on blogs, and "page hits" on forums.
A person who gives an "interesting" title to his blog, or to his blog messages, title including words like "sex", "death", "orgasm", "war", "terrorism", "Iraq", "Bush", "Blair", "taboo", "suicide", "lie", "abortion", "homosexuals", "abuse", "Saddam", "CIA" ... is likely to receive more hits because people are intrigued by those words, even if the blog or the messages are of no value.
On the other side, a person who entitles his message with "I am depressed", "nothing new today", "I don't know ...", ... even if his/her messages are great, may not receive many hits, cause such titles are not inviting.
Newspapers know very well the power of "sex", "death" and similar words, and you will see that they are often using similar words in their articles, and are placing those words on the front page, in order to trick you into purchasing, rather then purchasing what you wanted.
Blogs are competing with newspapers and with web sites, competing for your attention, ... and some blogers are more smart in using important words in order to attract your attention, then the others.
Long time after the Tsunami hit, words like "survivor", "tsunami", "lost", ... were used to attract your attention.
Long time after the Katrina hit, words like "survivor", "Katrina", "FAMA", "John Wayne", ... were used to attract your attention.
BUT, having a bombastic title will not help a blog on the long run, unless articles are good.
If all you have is a bombastic title, and then messages are poor quality ... people quickly learn to ignore that blog (or that newspaper).
Abusing page view counter is totally different animal.
That is against CureZone TOS, against Blog Guidelines , and is explained in Blog FAQ .
Anyone trying to "pump up" the number by pressing the refresh button will be blocked from curezone, and his/her deeds will be exposed in public, on CureZone shame page.

This is a reply to # 89,980Thank you for clearing that up - some blogs seem to get a phenomenal amount of hits within minutes or hours - and it kind of makes a person wonder how that is possible.
Some of those blogs don't even have intriguing titles - so I did some experimenting with refreshing the page etc. And low and behold it works.
Just goes to show how some people with go to unethical measures to ensure their popularity. Sad really, because life isn't a popularity contest.- Re: Confusing voting with page hits UserX

This is a reply to # 89,982Even if they don’t admit it, I think a lot of people are guilty of hitting the refresh button. I even did it about two years ago- when we first got the blogs. Not a good idea as Dushen is like God in that he can see everything you do. He's capable of tracking every key stroke once you enter his Zone.
EV, I agree, that something is amiss. Some of the blogs are down right ummm… silly- Yet, they generate hits. I don’t know what to make of it either, and I don’t like it!
