Here's my "quickie"...
I was in full-boat peri-pause for four years...four years ago - the last year and half of it was brutal (6-10 pound weight gain, PMS for weeks, cramps that'd put a Marine 'down', hot flashes directly from hell, scattered, irregular periods, you name it).
A big ole major
Colon Cleanse later...GONE - all of it. Everything went back to normal.
First period on
Iodine - FANTASTIC (started dosing 2/20/07). Every other period? VERY late. For both, I've actually had to stop dosing to get my period to start (or at least I think that my stopping dosing is what did it...maybe it would have started anyway, but after one that was 15 days late, and 6-7 days into the other, I didn't wait around to see for sure, I just stopped the iodine).
I'm due again around the 25th of this month. I've dropped to 24mg daily to see what will happen. I'll report in.
I've had no other symptoms of peri-m since starting the iodine, and all periods are smooth. The only thing I've noticed is that my skin isn't as soft/supple as originally, and a loss/lack/lowering of estrogen can certainly cause that.
My theory? All the d*mnedable chemicals that cause an increase in 'fake' estrogen are being purged out of me by the iodine....so it's affecting my hormone level. BUT my hair continues to become less grey and more coppery-red, I have no hot-flashes, no PMS/hormonal mood swings, no bloating...nothing that would indicate a start of menopause - besides the delayed (lack?) of normal cycling.
Methinks (for me anyway), the jury is still out. It makes no sense that
Iodine would halt/cease normal estrogen production - heck, it INCREASES activity of all hormonal receptors n' such, and it's defintitely making me younger - NOT older. I'm anxious to see what this month yields on the lower dose of 24mg daily.
I'm 47, my mother had a partial hysterectomy but swears she could always feel her cycle...and she claims it didn't stop the her early 50's. My aunt had a full hysterectomy - no info there. My maternal grandmother gave birth to a baby (that died in a few weeks...our lil' angel, Twila Marie) when grandma was 48...and she didn't experience menopause until her late 50's.
So, I'm going with the: "iodine purges the fake estrogen and my body is taking a few months to readjust" theory. Also...I'm pretty convinced 12-15mg is all we actually need as a maintenance dose. Until I'm sure my body is sufficient, and I drop down to maintenance for a few months...there's really no way to know for sure (as I see it, anyway).
That's about all I can come up with for 'Uny Logic' - do let us know if you come up with anything else!
