I have heard people say that you can't sprout seeds in distilled water. I just want to go on the record and say that I have a Waterwise distiller, and when I put rice into my water container, the rice sprouts in about 2 days. And 36 hours ago I put some mustard seeds into my water (experiment) and this morning they have quite long sprouts - I was surprised at how quickly the sprouts came bursting out. I wasn't even sure those mustard seeds could sprout.
So it must be a rumor about not being able to sprout with distilled water. That, or perhaps it applies to store-bought distilled/chemically distilled? I suppose there are many factors (I frequently play Bach on the piano, for example) but I wanted to clear the air, since it is not true, in my case, that my distilled water (fresh from the machine) prevents things from sprouting.
