I'm asking for advice on behalf of a girl here at work. She isn't in my department, but we work on the same floor so I see her mostly everyday. I am very upset by her appearance. She is so thin, I'm afraid that she might be in the last stages of anorexia. It seems to be more like anorexia because she is very obsessive with her food. She labels all of the food she has in the fridge and when I've actually seen her eat, it's usually about ten raisens that she's counted out, or a tiny wedge of a donut.
I know thin people. This girl is scary thin. I saw her in the elevator just before she put on her cardigan over a strappy dress and her body is deteriorating. When she bends over, I can see exactly where her rib cage ends and her hip bones begin. She has extremely brittle hair. Her face is sunken and her skin looks like it's starving for nutrients. Her legs are so thin that the veins are popping out. I've never been more sure about an eating disorder in my life.
I have no idea what to do. I've tried to befriend her, but she is very introverted. I'm just a temp, so I don't feel like I can order her manager to have an intervention.
Does anybody have some advice. I just feel very helpless. Nobody seems to care. And I think this girl could die.
