This is a reply to # 883,606Hi mama crow...I'm afraid it is...welcome to pre-middle age or beyond. :-)
If everything else seems normal...no unusual pain or other symptoms...
you've just reached the point that we all have to reach at some point...
I'm sure there are women out there that float through life with no heavy
periods...no big chunky 'clots' that look like a calf's liver :-) but
for me...my sisters...my friends...and now even our daughter at only 33...
the time came when fussing about those 'little aggrevating periods'...
turned in to a joke...as those 'little aggrevating periods'...turned into
gushers with enormous clots.
You may get reply's telling you this is wrong or that is wrong...but trust
me...if all else seems ok...you're just 'normal'. :-)

This is a reply to # 883,620Thank you, Kathryn ... I cannot tell you how relieved I am to hear SOMEONE, ANYONE, tell me this is to be expected with middle age.
I've noticed my periods are indeed getting heavier as the months go by, and now these huge clots!? I suppose this is the stage of pre-menopause?
Thank you for setting my mind at ease. Seriously.

This is a reply to # 883,637THIS...the heavy periods with the calf size clots...this is the 'easy' part of
aging...mama crow. Just wait until you start getting a little 'mustache' and can't
sleep at night...now THAT'S a problem. :-) (that's what I'm doing up at 11:25 p.m.
here in our little woods in Southern Illinois...I'm to the insomnia stage) :-)
As time goes on, you're periods will probably get very unpredictable. You'll
miss one....have 2 right together...it really gets fun! :-) There will probably
be days when you'll find yourself on the couch with 3 big pillows propped under
your feet...to slow down the flow...just so you can go to the mailbox. :-) and
then the next month...you can run a marathon if you want...because there may not
be even an inkling of anything.
I'm 60...and feel I'm in pretty good health...but I've been where you are...and
trust me...this is only the beginning...so instead of worrying about it...just
relax and enjoy the fact that it isn't worse...because trust me...you'll get
to that point. :-)
Now, sleep tight, sweet dreams and don't let the bed bugs bite. kathryn

Yes, I am afraid it is very normal.....
My first experience with peri-menopause was in my late 30's. Heavy bleeding and irregular periods and I was newly single! I was so sure I had cancer and was going to die. This just couldn't be happening to me. I kept it to myself for a few months before finally going to the doctor, who told me I was in peri-menopause. My first thought was this just couldn't be happening to me. (I am kinda a person who lives in that word denial.) But, peri-menopause? At the time I had never heard of peri-menopause and the doctor explained to me exactly what it meant and what was happening to me. I knew all about menopause, but had no idea there was a peri or a post! All I could relate menopause to was my divorce and wished I could have divided the stages of my divorce to peri-divorce, divorce and post divorce. The peri-divorce was when I suffered the most and no one knew, kinda like peri-menopause. The divorce itself was a relief because all the suffering was almost behind me. Then, the post-divorce was the most fun----no more pain----and I was single....kinda like post-menopause---no more periods and .... for some women, who suffered with this.... no more mood swings, hot flashes, etc.
All I could think about was I just couldn't be aging. I mean, it was me!!! I couldn't be getting older. (Again, I live in a constant stage of bliss and denial.)
Now, here I am in my mid-50's (or is it late 50's--Who cares?) and all of the peri/post and all the in-between of menopause is behind me and I feel great.
Just look at it this way----You are only beginning.

and the pain, and the post divorce, etc. :-)
It seems like the 'good old days of curezone' are gone and no one can post anymore
without listing 9 things the person with the problem needs to do and throw in a few
words that half of the readers have to disregard or look up. :-) I guess they
think that makes them look 'educated'. :-)
Some questions just take using good common sense.
Have a great day, it's raining here in my little woods in Southern Illinois...and I
think I'll run out and put some 'magic' on my new perenials and let them get a
jump start. And then this is going to be a good day to work on a picture collage.

This is a reply to # 883,786My part of Mississippi is in need of rain so badly. Yesterday we had a 90% chance of rain and guess what? That 10% hit my area. No rain.
Oh, and something else I wanted to say to Mama Crow......I never had one hormone and made it just fine.

This is a reply to # 883,797I don't take hormones either. If I get a little hot...I fan. :-) That's why
they're called 'hot FLASHES' :-) They're there...and gone. At least that's the
way they were for me. And I really haven't had a problem in any area...no depression, very few hot flashes. I guess you and I have been very blessed in
that area. But sometimes, I think a persons attitude has a lot to do with
the way they handle things.
In our home when our kids were growing up...we had what I referred to as the
"Dozen People Dying" story. One of our kids were always running in with a big
crisis...and when you'd see them come running in the room, you'd think they had
just heard on tv that the world was ending that day. One day, our daughter came
running in from town...and she was so excited she could barely talk. I put one
hand on each of her shoulders and I said, "Hold on! Is anyone dead or dying?"
She looked at me so funny...and said, "Well of course not!" I said, "Then whatever
it is...it can't be that bad...so tell me what's wrong." After she told 'her'
story, I said, "Kim, when you 'think' you have a problem, try to stop and think
of things this way....at that very minute...even in future events...when you
have a problem...there will be at least a dozen people within a 10 mile radius
of you that know they will probably not see 'tomorrow'...because they are on
their death beds and know it. So if you've 'broken a nail' or even had a little
fender bender...if your problem at that moment actually is minor...you can put
it into perspective by thinking of the dozen people dying." Our kids have talked
about the 'dozen people dying' story for years and talked about how much just
thinking of that has helped them.
My sister, before she retired, was Mayor of our little town...and one day she called
me because she was upset about something that she felt wasn't going well...and I
told HER the dozen people dying story and she said, "Oh thank you for telling me
that...I wish you had told me that story years ago, I can go on about my day now,
because "I" realize "I" don't even 'have' a problem. :-)
And on the weather...we've been in an early draught, too. I've been watering...
which here...is almost a full time job...and that old dry ground was just soaking
up the water faster than I could put it on. But we're expecting a good steady
rain all day today....yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I can put on my creative
hat and play today. :-) Have a great day! kathryn

There are a set of amino acids that are the precursor to the sexual hormones
DO NOT TAKE man made hormones and no generics
the latest rage in bio identical hormones and the jury is out
but I was so desperate that I would have paid any price
I had a scrip for progesterone in the generic I was sick as a dog and still bleeding
some of the yam cremes helped put on the womb and the inside of the thighs
First have a salavia test and see if I guessed correctly and then do amino acid research there is a string of 3 I believe
Also Chinese Md- try that first it may allievate the whole advice above
But this is not normal

you possibly know about them? And just for the record, Iodine is not the answer
to everything!
I knew she would get advice from people wanting her to do everything but hang upside
down from a tree. I can call 20 women right this minute, who are having or have
had the problem she's having. Yes, there is a reason her body is doing this but
she was afraid it meant something bad or even potentially life threatening and it
does not!

I started to experience the same kind of periods that you are describing back in Sept. Oct. 2006. This continued thru the first of 2007. I started out taking kelp and this took my periods down from 2-3 weeks of heavy bleeding with lots! of huge clots to 4-5 days of heavy bleeding with lots of large clots.
I then started on Iodine - Lugol's detoxified and Iodoral at different times and my last two periods have been like the periods that I had in my 20's. With the exception of a little more cramping. I am mid-40 ish.
If you research iodine, you will find that it really effects all of our reproductive organs.- Thank You, Rainbow ... Mama Crow

This is a reply to # 883,606Hey, Mama - relax and take a deep breath. I started that round of freakshow cycles a long while back before I stopped having cycles, entirely. I'm only 47, but horribly obese and, YES, I have been taking Iodine therapy for a number of other reasons. Sounds like you're perimenopausal, but, as a previous poster suggested, a hormone test will either confirm or refute perimenopause.
For the time being, just keep doing what you've been doing for your Self, my dear. And, if you are still concerned, visit the GYN. Again, in agreement with the previous poster, under no circumstances would I accept hormonal therapy to "deal with" the onset of menopause - in 2005, Breast Cancer saw a 6% reduction, nationwide, due to women REFUSING to accept hormone replacement. In 2006, it dropped yet another 7%.
It's crazy how we often treat normal, natural processes with such rabid anxiety - the MEDICAL community, is what I'm referring to. Take this pill and you'll have a happy day. Take this pill and you'll get 8 hours of sleep. Take this pill and you won't have menopause sweats. Take this pill to counteract the side effects of the first pill....and so on.
You'll be just fine, Mama. Just one of those processes that come around. And, the insomnia aspect was annoying for me, most certainly, but I sure got a lot of paintings done! LOL!!! (HUGS) - Re: Is This Normal? UserX

This is a reply to # 883,606When I was passing clots like that...and some looked like I had passed my whole liver!!!...I had fibroids. This was also accompanied by very heavy bleeding. An ultrasound confirmed my diagnosis, and since I had the fibroids removed (myomectomy), I have not had the large clots or extreme bleeding that I had before my surgery. I am now perimenopausal...complete with somewhat unpredictable periods, some light, some heavier, some small clots...but nothing like I had before the fibroids were removed. If I were you, I would get it checked out.
