In certain angles of light they see the reflection of outdoors, and think they are flying into more trees and over lawns, etc.
Reflections in glass are hurting our birds.
One university put up black cutouts of the shapes of flying falcons, to send birds elsewhere. Don't know if these were pasted on the outside or inside of the windows...however, it worked.
So, there is an occupation, a small money-earner, for anyone who needs a job.
Make cutouts of flying falcons that folks can hang on strings from their eaves.
Price them double of your actual costs, and promote them to the retailers in farmers' markets.
Those retailers add on a modest suggested profit margin (no one can dictate a retailer's mark-up, but several competing retailers will keep the end price reasonable), and you make a tidy 100% profit on a small investment.
Or, you do the retailing.
Get yourself a city peddlar's licence, at city hall, and go round knocking on doors all summer.
No heavy 'selling' is necessary...just hold up your falcon on a string, and say that it's for saving birds from crashing into windows.
Your low price will make your falcons even more attractive to householders. It's the old principle of lower the price and go for volume. Your pleasant manner is also attractive.
In use, flying falcon images on strings will swing gently in breezes and save the lives of thousands of birds. Birds eat pests, especially where chemicals have NOT been applied. Our gardens become more fruitful, and beautiful. Plants make oxygen.
Guano from birds is a great fertilizer.
Sit a bowl on something raised, add a stick or something for the birds to sit on, and fill the bowl regularly with fresh water. The birds who drink there will reward you.
Never offer to hang the falcons on anyone else's house...you couldn't afford the insurance coverage.
Declare your income, and remit sales tax collected. It won't make a huge difference in the taxes you pay, unless the business really takes off. Besides, you have figured in those costs in your pricing. Ask an accountant, if this confuses you. They can calculate this in a few minutes, and they can tell you where are the offices you need to see.
You know those places where they produce the striping and ads to stick on vehicles? They can cut you out shapes by machine, really quickly. And, they can tell you where to get the material. Ask in art supply stores, too.
Copy the shape of your falcon by hand...it's too expensive to have them all made by machine.
Treasure and income are everywhere.
Hope you find yours.
