Hopefully I'll be able to answer all of your questions, we'll see... My lips would peel on their own about once every 3 or 4 days before this treatment and in little spots (on my lower lip) about once a week after the treatment. My upper lip still needs to heal, but it's better. During the month of treatment, I let the skin grow and trimmed only the edges that really needed to come off. When I say this, I mean that I waited to trim until the edges would "pop up" when I pursed my lips together. I found that I had to be pretty careful not to trim too far also.
In response to your last question, I did try applying other lip balms and leaving my lips alone, but there were a couple of problems with this:
1. I would need to reapply lip balm very often
2. My lips would still look pretty darn weird
With the Leucatin stuff, my lips would be extremely glossy and greasy for about the first half hour, and then they would appear a little bit more normal for about two hours (this is about the longest that I went without reapplying). During this time I still separated myself from others as much as possible when I was eating and I constantly made trips to the bathroom following meals to "assess the damage". Anyway, I hope this helps, I'll be in touch.
