As to 'normal vets'. Incredible. Sasha was supposed to be spayed today. The day before yesterday I took her to the vet because she is VERY quiet, pees 12 times a day, has lost the sparkle in her eyes. The vet surmised that it might be a urinary tract infection.
Yesterday I called for the blood results and there were abnormalities in certain white blood cells and in certain red blood cells and urea nitrogen was up. The vet said that we could either give her Antibiotics or go ahead with the spaying.
WHO in their right mind would do a spaying on a dog who has a urinary tract infection????

"Normal Vets", or for that matter "Abnormal Vets" are only as good as their ability to apply their knowledge.
The question you should ask is why they believe it's a simple urinary tract infection as opposed to the beginning of kidney failure either separate or associated with an initial infection? There's certainly nothing wrong in waiting 48 hrs after starting Antibiotics . If it's a UT infection then the dog will perk up rapidly. Sounds like the Vet(s) are rushing things a little in this case.
