There is more to the body than just the pancreas.. And also that does not take into effect what you have ate?? How much sugar..carbs or protein you have just ingested?? So it is NOT that simple as you makes it sound. Although yes the pancreas could still be working a bit or maybe not at all?? but really its all about what you are eating and how much carbs you take in for the most part.

You may be correct in this idea about what you are eating, but you may want to consider that just maybe it has more to do with rather is the foods you are choosing to eat of the "Complete Complexed Carbohydrate" , which is Highly Mineralized, or are your foods of the "Simple Carbohydrate" , which are Lacking in Alkaline Minerals !
Because it may be this "Lacking" in Alkaline Minerals which allows the Different organs of the body which Regulate the Blood Sugar levels, to then themself become Sick and Diseased and thus then "NOT" be able to do their job properly of regulating the Blood Sugar levels and thus you then may have Diabetes !
Cause and Effect !

Do you think that Alkaline Minerals would stop the antibodies...or prevent them, from attacking the islet cells? Because this is the real issue at least for Type I ...I'm not trying to sound sarcastic, sorry if I do...just trying to understand. It is a serious question. I do not know the details on these mineral...you know there main function. Could you tell me?
Simple over view ...Type II CAN be caused by the environment...hence Type I and 1/2<< maybe you have heard of this new TERM (not so sure I believe all this one)...they skip straight to a destroyed pancreas because of poor environment...AKA diet /excersise...not always the case I suppose, but Type I is the ONLY form that SHOWS antibodies....that's the question....what causes our bodies to kill off ANY normal healthy cells, as in the case of other diseases. Type II's are ACTUALLY lacking a different hormone...well enzyme...NOT the insulin itself...it is the enzyme that CARRIES the insulin to it's normal duties. So they still regulate the amount they make it just stock piles and is not used. Eventually the Pancreas STOPS regulating and then stops producing because the body is not using it ( this is the point that Docs start pushing insulin therapy on Type IIs). Type I basically...production is hindered by the antibodies...which inturn screws up regulation and eventually no cells are left TO produce it. The use of the terminolgy "antibodies" may be a word of "Fear" for most people !
But, let us learn to understand the problem !
"IF" it be antibodies which is doing as you have been lead to believe, to destroy or "eat" other cells up in the body, then it is something which eats and needs a place to live !
So, this may mean that "ALL" one needs to do is to change the food supply to one which these "antibodies" do "NOT" like to eat and these antibodies will pack their bags and Leave your body along !
And you have been told that these antibodies are attacking the islet cells and this is "WHY" the problem ?
Could it be that "IF" "YOU" would learn what these islet cells may be Lacking and provide these cells with some proper Health which they may be missing , that just maybe these antibodies may "STOP" attacking and eating these cells , may one say ?
Could it be that as is the case most of the time in Sickness and Disease in the body, that when the body does "NOT" get enough proper Alkaline Minerals, that this may Cause the cells of the body to become too short of "Oxygen" and thus become too Acidic and that this may be "WHY" the problem in the first place ?
Cause and Effect !
Provide the islet cells or "ANY" other cells of the body with the what they may need to carry the needed "Oxygen" so they may be areobic cells, rather than anerobic cells which may Putrefy and become Destroyed from this Lack of "Oxygen" and "YOU" may learn to Solve this supposed Mysterious problem of Type 1 Diabetes !

This is a reply to # 810,401Well...sounds simple to me. Do you suggest any specific types of foods?? I will not abandon my insulin therapy at this point, but I will certainly try anything...and maybe that will follow, as I do regulate my intake of foods AND insulin, so I would definately SEE the change if it happened!

This is a reply to # 789,349Yeah...I was a little iffy on that too. Actually the body has some how formed antibodies against the islet cells that produce insulin in Type I diabetes. These antibodies are not present in Type II....So I think looking more at why that happens would make more sense. Yes and in the beginning stages of Type I you will still "squirt" out some insulin....as it is dying. It just isn't regulating anymore. Yup I also agree with you on intake factors of it (what you've eaten) Although....you shouldn't have LOW blood sugars with untreated Type I, at least not after the pancreas totaly dies...so that part is true. You would NOT clear the glucose produced by what you ate at all. (the more I type the more I think of! lol) It is proven that excercise will force the pancreas to shoot out a bit of insulin SOMETIMES...they just can't be sure when or for how long after diagnosis that will work...that could cause lower glucose levels...)I guess I agree on the whole "lot's of things going on in the body at once" statement too!!
I think we all need to know more about WHY the body chooses to attack the islets....that wuld be interesting to know wouldn't it?? Maybe there is an alternative treatment that would help to stop that. WELL other than the coats solution that is to treat it with imunosupressors (sp?)!
EDIT: I read the piece on the canadian mice...WOW...so then why do I HAVE these antibodies in my blood....hhmmm...I think I will keep up on this and look into it a bit more.....just wanted you all to know I did read that....after the fact.. :)
