Molasses is mineral rich and takes a while to absorb. However the facts are that it is also very concentrated sugar. I have a jar of Blackstrap molasses and a container of Demerara
Sugar (evaporated cane juice) and here are the stats on the label per one tablespoon serving:
Calories Molasses-60 Evaporated Cane Juice-45
Carbs in grams Molasses-14 Evaporated Cane Juice-12
I'm out of Maple syrup right now so I can't compare it; but Blackstrap Molasses is not the low calorie miracle some make it out to be. Its good point is the minerals it contains. Because it takes a little longer for the body to absorb its sugars it can be good for diabetics, but it is not a low
Sugar product.
For people with Candida issues simply reducing the amount of sweetener used may be the best solution, but don't omit it entirely. Some form of
Sugar is necessary for proper mineral absorption. You might want to just use 1/3-1/2 of your choice of sweetener and use a little Stevia to taste.
