Abnormal TSH T4 Results

Hi everybody, I have been hypo for quite a number of years however my symptoms have vastly improved since embarking upon Chinese herbal therapy over the last 12 months or so. Today I had my latest test result from my western doctor who provided what I interpret as a contradiction (assuming UK lab tests use the same parameters as US labs when defining what is high, normal or low.
Can somebody please confirm for me that a T4 count of 16.5 is high.
My blood test received a feedback of T4 16.6 and TSH 7.3.
Correct me if I'm wrong but does that not appear to be a contradiction ?
I thought that normal T4 was somewhere between 0.7 - 2 give or take a small tolerance, and normal TSH was about 1 - 4.
My western doctor said that I should INCREASE the thyroxine from 100 mcg to 125 mcg.
So, what are the ranges/parameters that define high, normal or low T4 count ???
Appreciate any input.

This is a reply to # 770,433I thought I would provide an update for anybody that is interested.
Total T4 range is 4.5-12.5
Free T4 (Not bound to protein) is 0.7-2.0
So its clear the range that I was tested for is total T4, but that is still way above 12.5.... and my GP is suggesting INCREASING thyroxine from 100 mcg to 125 mcg !
Its a total contradiction that Total T4 is above the reference range and also TSH is above reference range.
Anyway, after my heart palps I decided to stop taking synthetic thyroxine for two days until my result came though. The heart palps disapeered, today I took 100 mcg again after my doc called with the results and straight away the palps were back and slight pain in my chest also...

Please could you tell me what chinese medicine you have been using to treat your thyroid and can you clarify whether you were hyper or hypo?

This is a reply to # 770,898Yes I have used Thyroid Throu. I have no connection to the suppliers of this herbal therapy other than I use it, and it has helped my condition.
Do a search on google for Thyroid Throu and you will find the website that sells it.
I'm Hypo however Chinese theory is underpinned by balancing something that is out of balance, and therefore this herbal combination is used to treat ALL thyroid conditions, including hyper.
Its quite expensive, its takes a while to get to work and I estimate the average person with quite a severe thyroid disorder will have to give it 2 years to really turn around the condition.
At the standard dose, 2 years of this treatment will cost around £1500, or £80 per month...
If you value your health more than burgers and cocktail bars, then I suggest re-routing your financial resources into something that will create the platform of a healthy body. I did, and one year on I'm pleased I did also.
