Absolutely, I rail against the one size fits all approach also. My internist used to hook me up to machines once a year and then prescribe ways she felt I could "be like everyone else". I see epidemic use of behavior altering drugs being used on children and adults which are not appropriate. They are even prescribing stuff for infants now~! I would prefer seeing parenting skills emphasized and better education opportunities where a teacher is not overburdened and more prone to label a kid with attention deficit disorder. Like Ohfor07 posted, the government wants to get into everyones POCKET by prescribing in most cases *mandatory* medication for disorders which are nothing more than reasons for pharma giants to increase profits.
Our ancestors never had these problems and even in raising my own child, the thought of medicating her to act like everyone else never came up. She was fortunate to have her parents and extended family available and never needed to be medicated. She was raised with a clean diet since we discovered early on many chemicals in food affected her. She could eat a homemade chocolate chip cookie and be fine but give her a ChipsAhoy and within 10 minutes she was a mess, clawing at herself and clearly in distress. Too many children are being trampled in the name of profit and as a mother it makes me feel so frustrated that there is not emphasis on education and raising awareness of simple things like, eliminating foods and toxins in one's environment.
It takes time and education to raise the bar for one's self, relative to quality of life but in the long run, you save more money and are more productive and happy being healthy. Of course, there is the same problem...ultimately, the government is not really in the business of saving lives since there are a lot of pie-eaters and not enough pie, so why not make money while whittling away at the quality of life. So many live lives of quiet desperation suffering with environmental and food-borne toxins that they *wish* they were dead. As a man/woman thinketh...as well, I suspect there could be other agendas insidiously whittling down the American *way of life* as we used to know it, dream it, and inspire in our progeny.
I too am frustrated and without the integrity of our elected representatives and the cooperation of the media to seek out truth, it seems we are reduced to chawing on misrepresentation and swallowing our disgust. For example, Clinton rallied and brought into reality legislation that ONLY diet-soda can be vended in public high-schools. Kids do not have the option now of buying a soda which does not contain aspartame. This is insanity when, if media were doing its job, that would NEVER have happened. Do I think there is an agenda and that this happened on purpose...the
Conspiracy theorist in me says yes. Of course, anyone can argue themselves blue that this is not the case. This does not change the fact that we are setting our kids up for health problems and creating a market for more pharmecuticals. Its a shame and a disgrace and it does reflect on our government and the "bed-fellows" they seem to keep.
Keep educating yourself while you can...it may save your life or someone else's down the road. Thinking to the future and the hope that the tide will change, I do squeak out my own concerns and someday, in spite of all efforts to keep this sorry state of health care underwraps, there will come a mouse who ROARS....
I wish you well on your own healing journey~~
be happy, be well,
Zoe
