Hello,
I'm in the process of finding a good quality food for my dogs who've been on the not so good stuff all these years =(
I have been reading opinions regarding the Kirkland brand dog food sold at Costco and I am curious about it. Some say it's comparable to the "premium" dog foods sold out there while others whole-heartedly disagree. But I've also read various opinions on Nutro being a (bad) mainstream brand while others consider it a premium food.

Would you feed that to your pet?
Also, what brands would you consider to be of higher quality and which one would you recommend?

This is a reply to # 75,231After searching further, I found the ingredients posted elsewhere. I'm not impressed as it contains by products and corn meal, neither of which is good for dog. Also, chicken listed first is before the water is cooked or extruded out. It takes 5 pounds of wet chicken to make one pound of dry chicken meal so the chicken by-products would actually be the highest ingredients *after cooking.* I know it may be cheaper, but being cheap now could be shortchanging your dog's health.
To me, that's just not worth it.-

I was specifically looking at the lamb and rice formula which contains neither by-products nor cornmeal. What are your thoughts on this?

This is a reply to # 75,241That's definitely not the same label I read. This label doesn't look too bad, although the addition of dried skim milk is unneccessary and could cause some digestive stress. However, it does look a LOT better than the big "advertised on TV" brands.
The first question that comes to mind is: "Is the protein source human-grade meat or is it human reject (meaning injection or infection sites.)" (So some people would call that nitpicky, but if I won't eat it, I won't feed it to my animals.)
Farther down is a thread on Dog food that has a lot of suggestions on good food (except after reading the ingredients, I'd stay far away from Purina.)
