Personally, I'm a firm believer in the concept of metabolic typing, which says that there's not one diet that's OK for everybody. A vegetarian diet did not work for me. It tried it for more than a year and it made me gain weight, gave me high blood pressure and a constant feeling of nervousness. If you are a fast oxidizer like me, then your body is more adapted at processing meat and other proteins and it cannot metabolise carbs very efficiently.
I believe that obesity, cancer, hypertension, etc. are mainly caused by
Sugar (and for some people grains) and not by meat. I am very much aware of the fact that meat today is not as healthy as a century ago and try to get the best quality possible. I eat a lot of it raw and fortunately here in Europe the chances of hormones and
Antibiotics in your meat are smaller (although not non-existant), as they are forbidden by law. I probably eat more vegetables than many vegetarians, though not a lot of fruits, because of their high
Sugar content.
Do remember though that most of the fruits and vegetables today are not as healty as a century ago either. Just take a look at the Ask Moreless forum and some of the brix reading results they report there for many fruit and vegetables, even when they are biologically grown or come from a health food store.
And by the way, Mercola also advises raw dairy products (i.e. non-pasteurised) which you have to buy from your local farmer and not from his website...
