I suffer from S.A.D. symptoms too. I find this time of year is much worse than when the light is just as sparce in Jan/Feb.Do others find that too?
My concern is with the naming of SAD.
It sure looks like, or is exactly like, one of those situations where a condition is given a name so it can be diagnosed and a drug can be designed for it and doctors can then prescribe that drug for it.
A number of others conditions -ADD and 'adult ADD'; panic disorder, memory deficiency symdrome, etc. - have been 'invented' for a pill.
The conditions are real enough, its the pills that is faking it for secondary gains!
Remember - They create the problem, and then offer the Solution.
This is exactly like that. No - this IS that.
Not just the naming of SAD, but the whole promotional game from the TV ads to the DrugCo reps in your doctor's face, and the diagnosis and of course, the one thing that your doctors knows of to help - a new pill he will prescribe.
What should we do instead? Get help. Forget the pills, SAD is just a group of symptoms we get this time of year and those should all be addressed indivuidually and not as one "illness". or, just addressing as many symptoms as you want to will help too.
The low light levels can be adjusted artificially with the lamps, but dont pay much or they will keep the prices high for everyone;
-the horemone disruptions are chemically induced so we must learn to limit our exposures to toxins and milk* and so on;
-the shift from summer to winter must be acknoledged and we must not try to pretend that it is still summer - slow down and accept that we slow down so energy is not depleted by noon each day.
You may have to petition your boss to understand, and he will give you the capitalist lectures, and you must tell him "Boss, capitalism is failing us in presicely these ways - if it cannot adjust to the human rythmns,then we better search for a better way of dealing with economics.
the viri and bacterials are around, and the winter moulds are growing now - in airtight buildings and warm furnace areas and so on make them grow well this time of year in places they don't grow in summertime. We may have to have a good immune system for that challenge. remember, its not alwys a suyden and noticeable infection, they can be low level and just bother you, whcihc cvan easilty turn to
Depression this time of year.
Sunlight and vit d is a big deal too. Other nutrients may not react the same without sun and Vit D. So if the sun comes out for a few minutes, go get as much as you can.
If you have concerns about skin cancer, don't worry in winter - the sun is low in the south and goes thru a lot more atmosphere this time of year, making it 100X safer than in summer for skin cancers. "Its totally undangerous now man."

* just getting off of milk this time of year helps some people a lot. Take a break from it for one week, 100% off of dairy, and see if the cloud lifts. Avoid all dairy during that time of course. Meat has horemones in it too, so if you are not getting good results, quit meat for two days during the milk break.
