I would like to reply whilst not undermining the concerns of others relating to this issue. I apologise to other members of the forum who believe this topic does not pertain to Christianity. I believe, however, that idiamoh has asked some important questions that we can help him with and he can challenge us with; I mean no disrespect in replying...
To Idiamoh:
Your questions are tough and well thought out, I think it's great that you are thinking so passionately about these issues and have a deep concern for the truth.
Before I attempt to answer your questions, let me emphasise a really important point about my faith; I don't know everything - in fact, I really don't 'know' anything expect that there is a God who sacrificed himself for us. As such, all my replies are not intended as absolutions and only as possible truths.
You state Religion is a fear that moves primitive people and defies logical intelligence:
I'm not sure if your saying its origins are primitive or if followers are primitive! Sorry! But either way, Christianity has existed for 2000 years now, and Judeaism for millenia before that (the exact date is not known - its suspected to be prehistoric)/(Judeaism is the founding faith of Christianity). There isn't really much I can say to this except dismiss a popular stigma emanating from your comment: Religion isn't fear-motivated, it's love-motivated and belief in it comes about in an ultimately incomprehensible way - through God. The message God offers is of love and forgiveness. His love for you is holy - that is, it is removed in every way from love on earth and exalted to perfection - his love for you is also, incomprehensible.
This might seem weird seeing you don't consider yourself christian, but try praying! Just sit on your bed and talk away to God (even if you don't think he's there) - mabye this will help you undrestand why we belief; because I really cant explain it! Ask him how you know he exists, summarise your website to him and ask him to explain - I'm 99.9999999% sure he won't physically answer! But he will answer your questions through your day-to-day lives. You just need to ask them!
Beginning was hunter/gatherer; big bang; evolution:
Yeah, toughies! I personally think (with emphasis on think) that all these statements are true. The evidence is convincing. But why can't God be behind this? Why can't these mechanisms be his tools of creation?
With regards to the big bang - before it, there was no existance (we assume!), therefore its creation must have come about by something that is outside of existance as we know it - I wager it was God!
I think we also need to consider the possibilty that none of these entities are true - mabye the world was literally (as opposed to metaphorically) created in seven days. Ultimately all this doesn't matter, does it? When you die, what diffrence is it going to make if you know how the world was created or not?
Science is a flimsy foothold; it changes its mind all the time - nothing it says is for certain. 1000 years ago the earth was flat and the centre of the universe, maggots spontaeously generated from meat and everything was composed of fire, water, earth and air. All of these scientists were just as sure about the 'truth' as you are. I would suggest you are looking in the wrong place!
Kind regards and God bless!
