I live in Canada. I have had a TMJ problem since 6 years. I have tried both the upper and lower splint and the lower splint is helping me quite a bit. I have been wearing that one since 3 months only. My dentist has now suggested that I go for the veneers treatment - cap all my teeth with porcelain and get the bite adjustment through that procedure.
The cost of the veneer treatment has been estimated as CDN $30000 to $40000. I find that to be really exorbitant and I want to make sure that this is what will cure my TMJ problem and straighten my bite.
Is there any other alternative treatment equally effective ?
Is this cost estimate a reasonable one for this kind of treatment ?
How long should I expect veneers to last knowing that my grinding habit wears down even my natural teeth ?

MoreThis is a reply to # 623,638If the expense is that great maybe a trip to Colorado, USA and making visit with Dr. Frank Martin, Denver, CO who is my chiropractor. My healing was 1 visit. It was adjustment, hooked me up to machine, causing tingling to the area, and that was one visit only. It's been months and still free!! He's amazing and have seen him in action tons of times over the years. If it's 2 times that's usually max for most other than vehicle accidents which I can't speak of. Oh, if you go, use my name for reference and I will get a free office visit, Carol Giambri. This man is amazing. You can be free too!! Oh, I didn't take supplements or anything other than the one time chiropractor office visit.

thanks for the post. I have TMJ and it causes me to have tinnitus. I can not make it to Colorado. Can you provide either: the doctor's phone number or the name of the type of machine he used? I can have my chiropractor find out more about it so I can get some relief. I have had my ringing for over 20 years. Does any one else have success stories to report in getting over longterm tinnitus?? If so, PLEASE POST the details................

I don't know the name or anything about the machine type, the points he adjusted or the cream or gel he put on while the machine was stimulating those points, but glad to share my chiro. name/address who helped me so much many times, but usually a one or two visit only. Please use my name as he will send me a thank you visit card. He's fabulous and you will never forget this name and if you ever need to go, we are not far. This is a reply to # 623,638The type of machine used by chiro is called TENS machine. It just simply relaxing the muscles that causing your condyle to be compressed, which causing your pain.
Concerning the veneer proposal, I think that it is somewhat unreasonable. Just ask your doctor the basis for such proposed treatment which include any scientific study along with any peer review studies. IF the veneer is done right; essentially, it is no different than using the splint. The key is that if your doctor know where the condyle is. Have you taken any x-ray such as lateral ceph, tomogram etc. to determine if there is any skeletal discrepency. Typically, many people having TMJ problem is due to skeletal class II, the term used for having the mandible in retruded position which resulted in the condyle positioned in posterior-superior position. This is a reply to # 623,638I am not sure where in Canada you're located, but there's a great TMJ chiro specialist in Calgary. His name is Melrose. Phone number: 403-301-0276. He might be able to point you to someone in your city who uses a similar technique. If you combine Cranial sacral therapy with good chiro treatments, it can be very effective to move your jaw into the right position. - Re: TMJ cure with veneers seb481

I had considered veneer treatment until i came accross this website: www.tmj-help.org
I joined their program for $50 or $60 and it literraly changed my life!!
Check out their website, it will tell you much more than i will ;-)
