The scariness you are feeling is not the Reiki energy, but the clearing of fear from your body, mind and spirit. The fear can be quite uncomfortable as it is exiting. I also experienced this and most initiates do....Did your Reiki Master tell you what to expect during the workshop?
Sometimes after a Reiki treatment, a series of treatments or especially after an attunement like you had, a person will begin to detoxify. Toxins that have been stored in the body may be released along with feelings and thought patterns that are no longer useful. This doesn't always happen, but it is important to understand what is happening when it does. These releases may take place and surface in the form of a temporary skin rash, increased urination, runny nose, cold symptoms, diarrhea,
Body Odor , a need for more rest, emotional releases or outbursts, crying, a temporary mild form of
Depression or sleeplessness. This release should be supported rather than stopped. Do not try to suppress these symptoms with medications, but do let the toxins leave the body their own way. Whenever change takes place, even good change, there is an adjustment period so that the body and various parts of your life can adjust to the new conditions. You may find that old thought patterns begin to change, things may come to mind you haven't thought of in years, as you begin to look at life and approach it from a brand new perspective.
You will integrate the new energy and feel better in 6 weeks or so.
