Peace Protestor Expresses Frustration
By John Hawkins
Eighteen year old anti-war activist Moonbeam Featherstone was frustrated by her inability to persuade the majority of Americans to see things her way.
"I mean, I just don't get it," Featherstone said. "I've done everything possible to convince people that this war is morally wrong. I put "no war for oil" bumper stickers on all my neighbor's cars, I burned an American flag at the last protest march, & I even made this sign," Featherstone exclaimed as she waved her "America Deserved 9/11" placard in the air. "If that won't do it, what will?"
Featherstone continued, "I even went to a nude protest last week wearing nothing but socks and a smile. All of us got together and formed a big peace symbol -- it even made the paper -- but support for the war is still high! I just don't understand it! What will it take to convince people that Bush is our real enemy and not...oh what's his name. You know the guy with the funny mustache? He's the king of Turkey or Israel, he's one of those Middle-Eastern guys..."
Pedestrian Roger Smith agreed that Featherstone had not changed his opinion on the war. "So I walk up to this hippy at the peace protest and ask her if she has the time," Smith said. "She says she won't tell me the time until I let her know where I stand on the war," Smith recounted. "So I let her know I support getting rid of Hussein and she starts screaming at me and calling me a "Fascist", a "Nazi", & a "Good German. I thought she might have some sort of mental problem so I got out of there as fast as I could."
When she was asked why she thought the pro-war movement seemed to be having so much success, Featherstone expressed puzzlement, "What do the pro-war guys have going for them? A bunch of people on TV and talk radio arguing their points? Yeah, like that could really work. I think they're rigging the polls!"
But, Featherstone grew excited as she talked about the protest planned for the upcoming Friday. "We're going to handcuff ourselves together and lay down in the middle of a main thoroughfare during rush hour traffic," Featherstone exclaimed. "That will bring some hearts and minds over to our side for sure!"
