Janaki,
I read the book several years ago and am currently reading it again. There are books I've read that have changed my life, and The Four Agreements is one of them. It is a small attractive book that's a permanent part of my library.
I've learned that we not only need to be impeccable with what we say to others, but we need to be impeccable with what we say to ourself.
Here is a quote about what we say to ourselves from the first agreement--Be Impeccable with Your Word.
"By hooking our attention, the word can enter our mind and change a whole belief for better or for worse. Another example: You may believe you are stupid and you may have believed this for as long as you can remember. This agreement can be very trickly, causing you to do a lot of things just to ensure that you are stupid. You may do something and think to yourself, 'I wish I were smart, but I must be stupid or I wouldn't have done that.' The mind goes in hundreds of different directions, and we could spend days getting hooked by just that one belief in our own stupidity."
