Dear Andreas,
I recently did a week of Panchakarma treatments (received as a gift). My experience was not so pleasant due to the following factors:
I. Complications during Prep: Ghee prep usually makes me somewhat constipated for the first few days, but this time it was worse than ever, resulting in a few extremely hard BMs and really bad hemorrhoids due to strain. Due to hemorrhoid swelling and pain I couldn't do the laxative part (virechana with Castor oil) after all that ghee. I used homeopathic Aesculus for 2-3 weeks and the swelling and pain finally subsided just in time for my scheduled PK treatments. I did PK, which included oil massages, shirodharas, pizzis, and also 6 oil enemas and one herbalized enema. I had no problems with the enemas.
II. Oversensitive to environmental noises during treatments: I felt VERY settled and blissful when there where no rough and loud noises to disturb my treatments but was feeling highly irritable and sensitive whenever they happened. (examples: a Jeep engine left on for 10 min just below my window during my shirodhara, or a maintenance man hammering on the other side of my room while I was relaxing after a 2 hour nasya, masseurs cleaning pots in the room next door, etc). As if my nerves were directly exposed to the surroundings with no padding anywhere :-) I don't like feeling so vulnerable and affected by any loud noise around.

My questions, based on the above experiences are:
1. Why do I get so constipated during ghee prep? Even when using triphala ghee and in substantial amounts: 30ml, 40, 50, 60, 70, 90 and 120ml. I am an underweight Vata-Pitta type with chronically slow peristalsis and chronic hemorrhoids.
2. I'd like to try a colonic for a deeper cleansing but I am worried that it might aggravate the hemorrhoids? What do you think? I had no problems with Colema board, although it's tricky to get the tip out at the end without scratching the tissues a bit. In the past you advised me to pay more attention to keeping the colon clean, which I now do with Colosan, triphala and soon-to-resume Colemas.
3. Is there any benefit in using Horse Chestnut Seed extract (conkers) to relieve chronic hemorrhoids even before doing a series of liver flushes? If yes, which brand and potency would you recommend?
4. Is it really true that lipid soluble toxicants (like many environmental pollutants--pcbs, pesticides, etc) can only be eliminated from the tissues with PK treatments? There is a published research study that shows no other examined detox method eliminated those from the participating subjects. Our clinic refers to it when describing benefits of PK in today's toxic world, with the implication that, if you can't do PK regularly (very costly), you are stuck with these toxins in your fatty tissues forever, waiting for disease to happen.
5. Can liver, colon and kidney cleansing, combined with daily abhyangas and ayurvedic routine, eliminate such toxins? I did PK mainly because I wanted to balance Vata and because I am still waiting to gain some weight so I can resume liver flushing without further weight loss.
Thank you for your help and guidance as always,
Chetana
