Americans and other global citizens are no longer limited to getting their information from ABC, CBS NBC, CNN, or The New York Times.
As the saying goes 'Information is power,' and until a few years ago the reigns of that power were held FIRMLY by the 23 corporations which own almost ALL of the major media outlets as an important strategic leg of their global empire.
And then something kind of unexpected happened.
Something called the Internet crept into our lives and took up residence. Like television, a media which entered the life of the collective species about 50 years ago, the Internet was not exactly invited. Like Jenny McCarthy, Howard Stern, and the cast of 'Friends' it was just THERE one day.
Suddenly it became possible to log on and find other people just like you who were thinking the same crazy thoughts as you were. Some folks realized that their privately held 'crazy thoughts' really weren't that crazy after all...
And on the Internet there is no filter between the raw data and your brain. Quality is judged by the viewer, not by some reporter sucking on the corporate tit who will explain, frame and tell you what you should think about a particular issue.
You have the option of thinking for yourself.
You can recognize the truth when you see it.
You also have the option of low cost publishing on the web. From your brain, your nervous system, from your computer to the rest of the world and if you happen to have a videotape that could cause the same sort of reaction that the Rodney King beating videotape did, you don't need CNN anymore to broadcast it around the world. You just have to post it on your website, get the word out to a few well trafficked newsgroups and set off your own media awarness campaigne.
Consensus reality has been fractured into a million pieces by the so called 'leveling of the playing field' brought on by the Internet.
And this is scaring the hell out of the government and the media establishment for a good reason!
These alternative media are popping up all over the place, and the scarier ones, the trickier ones to dispose of in our tabloid news infested culture, the ones most difficult for 'them' to control are the 'conspiracy theories...' Take for instance the infamous 'Flight 800: Was it Friendly Fire?' email. This e-mail propagated like wildfire around the globe in a matter of days.
Think about the amazing repercussions that note set off! The FBI actually had to call a press conference to deny the contents of that one little e-mail! People went directly to the Internet to get their news and they were reading the opinions of people who were *not* working for the major news outlets, people who were *not* (so called or even self-proclaimed) EXPERTS, but others like themselves, who were perhaps skeptical of what they were being told by the network news...
And here was something that sounded surprisingly like common sense!
The term 'conspiracy theory' has entered the popular lexicon with a vengeance since Oliver Stone's 'JFK.' Calling someone a 'conspiracy theorist' is like calling them a lunatic. Images of unbalanced UFO nuts and fever soaked Kennedy assassination buffs come to mind. Now why would you want to go and believe a paranoid
Conspiracy theorist?
Paranoid.
Remember, there is no word in the English language that means 'rational fear.'
Why is it that the major media spends so much time discrediting and snickering at
Conspiracy theorists? And why were they so willing to throw one of their own, former ABC News correspondent Pierre Salinger, and now Peter Arnet to the wolves to make the point that you can't believe anything you find on the WWW or in the real world for that matter.
It's because we are at a point in time in human history where it is no longer possible to fool all of people all of the time and
there are becomming less and less fools everyday.
This scares them (the globalists).
You can still fool many people, sure, I won't deny that... But there are many people out there, you may even be one of them, who are beginning to get THE JOKE. *wink*
The late Allen Ginsberg said 'Recent history is the record of a vast
Conspiracy to impose one level of mechanical consciousness on mankind.'
Public language has been manipulated to the point of absurdity, and the insight the Internet affords into private minds is exhilarating and liberating.
With the cacophony of signals fighting to get into our heads, COMMON SENSE AND TRUTH *for a change* MIGHT have a chance to win out...
During the 1970's it was illegal to own a Xerox machine in the Soviet Union. You had to have a state permit to copy something. They didn't want to make it easy for anti-state propaganda to get printed up, but the relentless march of capitalism made it impossible not to introduce copiers, fax machines and modern communications in the former USSR.
The Russian population knowing fully well that what they were reading in the state sanctioned newspaper 'Pravda' (which means 'truth' and was anything but), sought out alternative information sources. By some estimates up to 70% of the Russian people were reading the underground press. Word got out. People realized they were being fed bullshit to keep them stupid and to keep the greedheads in business and the powerful in power. You could make a very good argument that fax machines and photocopiers brought down the Berlin Wall...
THIS is what scares them about the Internet and about those that seek and demand the truth. Because it CAN happen here, too...
It's not an issue of "RIGHT WING" or "LEFT WING" or UP or DOWN, no, it's a matter of peolpe craving the truth and finding a way to funnel it their way beyond the propoganda specialists whose very survival requires disinformation. They count on you to remain ignorant of their deceit.
Noam Chomsky said that it is the responsibility of intellectuals to tell the truth and expose lies.
Dig in, everyone... Dig deep...
