The Syrians of Antioch initiated the alias of the early followers of Christ as Christians. Although it may have been a term of contempt, Christians eventually used it of themselves. Nevertheless in recent times this term has lost its true significance, which is to differentiate Sons of God from the pagans.
God has called us to be sons, and the term 'Christian' does not and will never convey the true identity and purpose of a Son of God. The primary purpose of a Son of God is clearly outlined in the Bible:
Matt 28:19-20 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you" (NKJ).
BAPTIZING
The clearest example that shows the meaning of baptizing 'baptizo' is a text from the Greek poet and physician Nicander, who lived about 200 B. C. It is a recipe for making pickles and is helpful because it uses two words. Nicander says that in order to make a pickle, the vegetable should first be 'dipped' (bapto) into boiling water and then 'baptized' (baptizo) in the vinegar solution. Both verbs concern the immersing of vegetables in a solution. But the first is temporary (repentance). The second, the act of baptizing the vegetable, produces a permanent change (transformation of the mind).
TEACHING
'Didasko' is an essential process as men are delivered from the bondage of sin and built up in righteousness through the agency of the truth. Moses and Aaron were teachers of Israel in the statutes of Jehovah, having been first taught of God. Moses commanded fathers to teach their children the commandments of God with persistency and care. The priests however, were to instruct the people, especially by reading the law to them at the feast of Tabernacles.
NATIONS
'Ethnos' refers to foreign nations i.e. pagans or gentiles, not worshiping the true God, In order for the nations to be taught, they must first be summoned:
Rom 10:13-14 Anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. But how shall they (the nations) ask him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? (TLB)
The one responsible for telling the people is called a prophet, and the Bible uses the analogy of the trumpet to describe such a person:
Isa 58:1"Shout with the voice of a trumpet blast; tell my people of their sins!" (TLB) Trumpet 'salpigx' means to shake, to agitate, to cause to tremble. A) Used of men, to be thrown into a tremor, to quake for fear. B) Metaphorically, to agitate the mind (not the ear).
God directs the words and actions of prophets, for the sole purpose of reforming the minds of individuals and nations through a shift in paradigm. Contemporary psychologists who recognize that traumatic experiences tend to reconfigure the psyche of individuals support this process of human transformation.
Rev 11:10-11 And there will be a worldwide holiday-- people everywhere will rejoice and give presents to each other and throw parties to celebrate the death of the two prophets who had tormented them so much! But after three and a half days, the spirit of life from God will enter them, and they will stand up! And great fear will fall on everyone (TLB).
Acts 19:17-20 The story of what happened spread quickly all through Ephesus, to Jews and Greeks alike; and a solemn fear descended on the city, and the name of the Lord Jesus was greatly honored. Many of the believers who had been practicing black magic confessed their deeds and brought their incantation books and charms and burned them at a public bonfire. (Someone estimated the value of the books at $10,000.) This indicates how deeply the whole area was stirred by God's message (TLB).
The fallacy of Christianity can be identified with Nimrod the builder of great cities. He embarked on a plan to build a city with a tower that would reach into the heavens. This ambitious project was destined to succeed because all the people spoke one language. God's plan for humanity incorporates every nation, government, military, and economy, though this is true Nimrod's plan had to be stopped because it was not directed toward teaching the nations the laws of God's but rather setting up a city to celebrate his technological genius.
Gen 11:7 "Come, let us (The Counsel of God) go down and give them different languages, so that they won't understand each other's words!" So, in that way, God scattered them all over the earth; and that ended the building of the city. That is why the city was called Babel (meaning "confusion"), because it was there that Jehovah confused them by giving them many languages, thus widely scattering them across the face of the Earth (TLB).
The fallacy was never dealt with and the resultant confusion still persists in churches today. That is to say elders and pastors institute programs and techniques to 'win' souls and afterward create activities to keep the community occupied as opposed to teaching them to be transformed into a permanent position as a son of God.
Jer 5:31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own power; and my people love to have it so. But what will you do in the end? (NKJ)
Rule or leadership by ones own power cannot be associated with the original intent of God, and while men continue to concoct schemes and methods of leadership the initial cause and effect of the fallacy remains undetected and to large extent not even viewed as a cause for concern.
1 Cor 14:9-11 If you talk to a person in some language he doesn't understand, how will he know what you mean? You might as well be talking to an empty room. I suppose that there are hundreds of different languages in the world, and all are excellent for those who understand them, but to me they mean nothing. A person talking to me in one of these languages will be a stranger to me and I will be a stranger to him (TLB).
The language barrier is the effect of the dilemma and ignorance of the will of God the cause. The solution to this problem therefore lies with the one who created the language barrier in the first place. It was God's command that confused the language thus making it impossible for men understand His voice and work together to fulfill His purpose. Therefore only a prophet can command the word of God with clarity enabling individuals, communities and nations to fulfill the plan for the whole earth.
Isa 58:1"Shout with the voice of a trumpet blast; tell my people of their sins!" (TLB).
2 Chr 24:19 God sent prophets to bring them (His Sons) back to the Lord, but the people wouldn't listen (TLB).
Luke 11:49 "This is what God says about you: 'I will send prophets and apostles to you (the nations), and you will kill some of them and chase away the others" (TLB).
A PROPHET
One who, moved by the Spirit of God, i.e. spokesman, solemnly declares to men what he has received by inspiration, especially concerning future events, and in particular such as relate to the cause and kingdom of God and to human salvation. And used of men filled with the Spirit of God, who by God's authority and command in words of weight pleads the cause of God and urges salvation of men
PROPHECY
1 Cor 14:24 Prophecy (preaching the deep truths of God). Essentially this is what individuals, churches and the nations need to hear. If you prophesie and an unsaved person or a new believer comes in, though he might not understand spiritual things, a prophetic word will convince him of the fact that he is a sinner, and his conscience will be pricked by everything he hears.
As he listens, his secret thoughts will be laid bare, and he will fall down on his knees and worship God, declaring that God is really there among you. (Paraphrased:) The prophecy of a prophet destroys the language barrier by summoning individuals or nations to God. Once they respond in obedience their understanding is enlightened and the teaching process made simple thus they are 'baptized' in truth.
Ezek 33:4 Then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not take warning and the sword comes and takes his life, his blood will be on his own head (NIV).
We are well aware that the sons of God are the oracles of God, however when they fail to transmit the truth to the nations, the nations will not believe and be baptized. In respect of this essay it is evident that 'Christians' have failed to understand God's command and have resorted to Human Resource Strategy, e.g. motivational speeches, in a desperate attempt to perform the will of God.
1 Cor 14:8 If the army bugler doesn't play the right notes, how will the soldiers know that they are being called to battle? (TLB)
Therefore in order to teach the nations, communities or individuals it is imperative that we must first understand that techniques and programs cannot effect permanent change in the mentality of the hearers. Change is assured when we speak the deep truths of God and act in strict obedience to His will as directed by the Holy Spirit. In this way men are impelled by the Spirit of God to do His will.
Acts 2:16-18 What you see this morning was predicted centuries ago by the prophet Joel-- 'In the last days,' God said, 'I will pour out my Holy Spirit upon all mankind, and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men dream dreams. Yes, the Holy Spirit shall come upon all my servants, men and women alike, and they shall prophesy (TLB).
Prophecy therefore, is very critical in this era (the information age). Although there is an exponential increase in knowledge, the need of each individual, community and nation remains unique. Therefore the broad based approach of 'Christianity' will continue to be ineffective and in total contradiction to the will of God. It is understood that sociological analysis and demographics are an integral part of all effective political or economic undertakings. Equally so, and on an individual level, psychologists must asses their clients in order to ascertain the peculiarity of the condition in order to determine the subsequent approach to treatment.
Similarly, God's process of baptizing the world involves analyses of the physical, spiritual and psychological needs of the nations. Prophets are then sent to them with a view of destroying the ideologies and irrelevant worldviews, which lie at the heart of each dilemma.
Heb 4:12-13 For whatever God says (prophesies) to us is full of living power: it is sharper than the sharpest dagger, cutting swift and deep into our innermost thoughts and desires with all their parts, exposing us for what we really are. He knows about everyone, everywhere. Everything about us is bare and wide open to the all-seeing eyes of our living God; nothing can be hidden from him to whom we must explain all that we have done (TLB.)
This verse testifies that the whole of humanity has already been analyzed. God knows what we need even before we ask for it, and He does not need anyone to inform Him about the nature of men. Thus, by returning to His original plan the fallacy of 'Christianity' will be destroyed and the nations will be taught the laws of the true and living God.
