Hi everyone.
I just wanted to pass on something I learned a little while ago about cholesterol. This message is not about how to change the amount of cholesterol our bodies make but how to know what foods have cholesterol in them.
I will start with saying what probably everyone already knows is that cholesterol is produced in the liver.
I was told a simple way to know if a food had cholesterol and here it is.
(The simple Rule) If the thing you are eating has a liver or was produced by something that has a liver then it has cholesterol.
So that means, all animal meat has cholesterol, beef, chicken, pork, fish, etc. Also anything that comes from an animal has cholesterol, as in eggs, milk, etc, and anything made from milk has cholesterol, ie, butter, ice cream, cheese.
So on the flip side, anything that does not have a liver has no cholesterol, such things as olive oil or avocados may have fat but they have zero cholesterol.
Good oils are flax seed and any kind of plant based oil, cold pressed. Some people recommend fish and eggs to get omega 3 but remember that they both have cholesterol, livers remember.
Other things that have cholesterol, chicken broth, creamy soups, yogurt, cream cheese, sour cream, etc. It does not matter if you consume organic milk, eggs or fish, the organic variety may have less toxins in them but they still have cholesterol.
It's easy to remember which foods once you think about the liver when you are choosing your food.
I hope this helps clear up some confusion for those who want to limit or eliminate the cholesterol they are consuming.
