I will be the first person to relate that different treatments work for different people, but here's my story. The best advice I could give to anyone is to go see a knowledgeable dermatologist.
Tazorac is amazing stuff. I used it once a few months ago and my derm. at the time didn't really inform me how I should use it or caution me about its effects. I had been using Retin-A gel .025% for years but was dissatisfied by the peeling and redness and wasn't achieving wonderful results. Ok, so my first time trying Tazorac I broke out even worse (I thought I was allergic to it since my skin is very sensitive)and was extremely dry and nasty. So after about 2 weeks, I quit using it. I went to a new derm. last week who prescribed the Tazorac .05 and Klaron lotion. I put the Tazorac on for a minute, then wash off. I increase the time every night until I get up to 5 minutes, then I can leave it on all night (So far in a week I've just reached 2 minutes, so you have to be patient.) I then dry my face after washing it off and apply Klaron lotion, which is a sulfa treatment to treat acne, yet it is also very nourishing and cancels out the drying effects of the Tazorac. I was not optimistic of the results I might see from simply using the Tazorac for a minute then washing it off, but I've never seen my face look so good. Do remember, the Tazorac works by bringing everything to the surface first, so do not be surprised at all if your face starts looking worse. I have a problem with little bumps all over my forehead, and this medicine is really working to smooth those out. My skin looks and feels great and it looks virtually flawless with makeup on- and this is only after a week! Once I tolerate the .05 for a while, I will use the .1. Another amazing thing? Tazorac is also marketed as Avage, a wrinkle cream, yet it has the same exact ingredients. The Tazorac, over the course of a week, has smoothed little lines around my mouth and lines on my forehead- I am tight, smooth, and on my way to being zit free. I could never be happier and hope this helps someone else!!
