when someone has pancreatitis, one of the things sometimes done is to sieve the stools for gallstones. the gallstone will almost always be buried in a stool. if a patient has a stone stuck in the CBD causing
Cholangitis or pancreatitis etc an ERCP is done and a papillotomy performed on the Ampulla of Vater to enable the stone to be passed. it doesn't take a very big stone to get stuck. this is why most stones can't even get out of the gallbladder, esp as usually the diseased gallbladder cannot contract properly
NB stone implies hard doesn't it - blobs aren't stones
