I posted a reply there which didn't get read because of the week curezone was down. Basically the article which the poster referenced trashing olive oil was poor Science to say the least.
Firstly it is preliminary research and hasn't even been published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal yet. Many would say it was non-science.
Secondly and more importantly the article doesn't say what type/grade of olive-oil was used. Indeed it hints at a highly refined oil because the main point of the article is that OO (Olive-Oil) should only be consumed with veggies which have plenty of antioxidants. However cold-pressed, unprocessed extra virgin olive oil is loaded with antioxidants such as Vitamin E and chlorophyll. So the only point of the article is to say don't consume highly refined olive oil!!! Only consume cold-pressed, unprocessed extra virgin olive oil, preferably organic, which is what our ancestors have been doing for centuries and which is what gave them such good health and vitality.
People should not get their Science from newspapers, especially if they are scientifically illiterate and can not distinguish good Science from bad.
Refine any food enough and it becomes poison. Even olive oil.

MoreThis is a reply to # 380,009Yes, when there's a study that discovers something "new" (which actually it didn't, prostaglandins adn their effect on blood vessals has been known for about 15 years, before that Science had no idea why blood vessals contracted) and pinpoints one thing, it's helpful to consider how long that food has been used successfully.
Anything that's been around for more than 10 generations so that you can take a look at the cultures that use the food and how they do with it in their diets may not be an exact science, but it's better than focusing in on one basic fact and turning that food into the devil incarnate! LOL!
And really, what's the alternative? I can't think of anything BETTER than olive oil, except for flax seed, and you can't cook with it. So if the onlyl time you have olive oil without veggies is during a liver flush, then the benefits of the flush far outweigh the problems with having temporarily skewed your omega fatty acids.

This is a reply to # 380,012... surely the point is that olive oil in its natural virgin state does contain plenty of antioxidants. So you *don't* need to eat it with veggies. The fact that the "study" hints at olive oil being defficient in antioxidants shows that a highly refined oil was used. Scientists prefer doing tests on highly refined (standardised) foodstuffs, rather than the natural highly variable alternatives, at least if they are bad scientists.
Quoting from p255 of Udo Erasmus (Fats that heal, Fats that kill):
"The minor components in virgin (unrefined) olive oil have major health benefits. They constitute only about 2% of the total, and most of them are removed when virgin olive oil is degummed, refined, bleached, and deoderized."
These minor components include: Beta carotene (Vit A), tocopherols (Vit E), Chlorophyll, phytosterols etc. all of which are removed in the refining process and all of which are powerful antioxidants.

This is a reply to # 380,035One more thing about that study, they were eating that oil on bread. If they weren't chugging it straight, and then comparing also eating it with veggies versus with bread, can we compare the effects of the OTHER foods they were eating it with? We know that plain ol' bread is not exactly the body's best friend. So, refined olive oil eaten with bread... the results are not surprising!
